2 Bozeman Public Schools District No. 7 Job Description Position Title: Deputy Superintendent - Curriculum and Instruction K-5 Department: Instruction Reports To: Superintendent Revised By: Pat Strauss, Director of Human Resources Date: 12/1/18 SUMMARY: Develops, oversees and manages day-to-day operations of educational programs and services for the K-5 schools. Supports the implementation of the Long-Range Strategic Plan. Plans, develops and implements functions related to curriculum, instruction, enrollment, students, professional development, safety and special programs for the effective and efficient operation of all schools and offices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned): Work closely with the Superintendent of Schools and the Deputy Superintendent - Curriculum and Instruction 6-12 in the management, direction, supervision and evaluation of the schools within the school district. Supervise the K-5 building principals and assistant principals. Work closely with Central Office Administrators and K-5 Principals in the day-to-day management of school and district operations, including community relations, school climate, staffing, curriculum planning and implementation. Provide direction to and supervise K-5 Principals in the identification and development of instructional programs, activities and services. Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating school-based programs to accomplish district goals. Recommend policy and program changes to enhance quality education. In conjunction with the Superintendent establish, review and modify (as required) instructional standards and accountability measures for schools to enhance student academic performance. Provide leadership in planning and conducting curriculum studies including special programs for new courses, funding, staffing requirements, and curriculum impact. Oversee the development and implementation of instructional programs. Assist in the development and evaluation of the school action plans, including the annual review of each respective school s mission, goals, and objectives. Respond to parental concerns. Insure the use of effective instructional strategies. Oversee and collaborate on the professional development activities for the District. Ensure a professional development program that addresses K-5 curriculum needs. Monitor accreditation standards.

3 Assist in the administration of Elementary (K-5) student registration and transfers. Develop recommendations for staffing ratios. Work with Executive Director of Operations and Human Resource Director to execute K-5 staffing plan. Administer the development and implementation of all policies related to students and instruction. Review all K-5 professional staff performance evaluations. Determine assignments, transfers of teachers with the assistance of building principals and Director of Human Resources. Develop instructional budgets. Participate in the selection of instructional resources and provide guidance concerning instructional resource and other instructional material usage. Assist other departments in coordinating and improving overall information/ communications programs. Work with administration and staff in establishing school/business partnerships and maintains relationships with local businesses. Deal with emergency situations (e.g. inclement weather, fire, vandalism, etc.). Ensure the health and safety of students and staff and provide for emergency and disaster preparedness. Support the Superintendent s implementation of the goals and objectives of the Board of Trustees. Review and recommend for approval all K-5 building handbooks. Acts as professional advisor to Superintendent. Represent the Superintendent and District in various public meetings as needed. Collaborate with Superintendent to implement public relations and communication plan. As needed, provide District message to staff, students, parents and community through various media sources. Compile information gathered on the needs of the community. Work closely with Principals and lead Instructional Cabinet. Administer grant application process. Provide assistance to the Calendar Committee. Compile assessment data and report to the Board of Trustees. Facilitates special projects. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
