6 Courses and assessment courses will be taught in college, but won t be like school. Your lessons are likely to be hands-on with the emphasis on putting into practice what you are being taught. s are not classroom based courses. In s you are trained on the job by your employer, and you are achieve your qualification by demonstrating to your assessor that you know how to do certain tasks and can put your knowledge into practice in the workplace. You do that in two ways: Observation is one method of assessing s. Your assessor will watch you at work and judge whether you are competent. Portfolio is the other method of assessment. Here you need to assemble proof of what you have done in your work. This can be anything from statements by your supervisor or manager to videos of you actually doing the job. Apprenticeships get paid while you train! Apprenticeships (also known as Modern Apprenticeships ) are a way for you to earn a salary while you are doing your initial training something most people don t have the opportunity to do. As an apprentice, you will be paid a salary by your employer and given the time you need to complete your training. Your training will consist of three elements: a classroom based course (either of the Certificates on pages 4-5), an and a Key Skills qualification. There are two levels of apprenticeship. At the lower level, you need to complete a level 2 certificate and ; at the higher level, you work towards level 3 qualifications. For more details, please go to
