3 National Apprenticeship Service What we do 3 end to end responsibility for apprenticeships in England provide free, comprehensive and impartial apprenticeships adviceand wider skills support-traineeships and funding work with employers to develop their knowledge and confidence to implement and sustain an apprenticeship recruitment and talent management programmes provide modern, online application, matching and support tools apprenticeships for all ages (16+) and increasingly at all academic levels support employers to set in place foundations that will maximise returns on investment for the employer, and Apprentices alike. regional divisions across England-working with all partners and stakeholders LEPs-transforming opportunities and lives.. 5 What is a Traineeship? A new programme that addresses problems consistently raised by employers about young people, and gives access to young people to work opportunities and experience Too often young people lack the right skills and attitudes. Demonstrate poor job application skills Have little or no experience of seeking or being in work Held back by under developed literacy and/or numeracy skills Lack understanding of the behaviours required in the workplace designed to prepare young people for work, preferably into an apprenticeship

6 What is a Traineeship? 4 elements a high quality work placement to give the young person meaningful experience, develop workplace skills, and provide an opportunity to prove themselves to an employer. focused period of work preparation training. This might focus on areas like CV writing, interview preparation, job search, selfdiscipline and inter-personal skills. english and maths for young people who have not achieved a GCSE Grade C or equivalent. flexibility to include other elements such as vocational/industry specific content & qualifications

8 Why employers get involved Traineeships : allow employers to open up their recruitment process to a wider range of candidates, enabling them to talent spot and reduce the risks of recruitment. educate young people in how your business works and what would be expected of them in the workplace. Inform young people about your wider industry and encourage young people to consider a career in your industry. provide development opportunities for existing staff as supervisors, mentors and managers.
