Assessment processes help to ensure the following: Institutional and program-level goals are clear to the public, students, faculty, and staff; Institutional programs and resources are organized and coordinated to achieve institutional and program-level goals The institution is using assessment results to improve student outcomes, services, and otherwise advance the institution The institution is achieving its mission and goals
7 Middle States on Institutional Assessment An accredited institution possesses and demonstrates the following attributes or activities: Institutional objectives, both institution wide and for individual units, that are clearly stated, assessed appropriately, linked to mission and goal achievement, reflect conclusions drawn from assessment results, and are used for planning and resource allocation. Clearly documented and communicated planning and improvement processes that provide for constituent participation, and incorporate the use of assessment results. Strategies to measure and assess the adequacy and efficient utilization of institutional resources required to support the institution s mission and goals. Periodic assessment of the effectiveness of planning, resource allocation, institutional renewal processes, and availability of resources.
8 Institutional Objectives 1. Clearly articulate expected outcomes of the institution. 1. Be directly measurable. 2. Focus on the ends, not the means. 3. Be short and clear. 4. Incorporate verbs from Bloom s taxonomy.
