1 Bachelor of International Hospitality Management (HONS)
2 Synopsis The internship in hospitality consists of three components: Preinternship workshops, a 15-week supervised working period, and a post-internship industry attachment report. The preinternship workshops introduce students to professional working attitude; teamwork; leadership and multicultural workplace strategies. The internship is designed to expand career knowledge while increasing speed, timing, organization, and ability to handle cooking in an approved commercial foodservice and hospitality establishment. The post-internship exercise consists of an industry attachment report recording and reflecting on their work experience. All these three components are being assessed.
3 Objective To allow the students to discover and experience the working environment in the hospitality industry.

5 Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Comprehend the work environment in hospitality sector. Apply their practical/theoretical knowledge in hospitality operations. Demonstrate professional working attitudes. Operate in professional hospitality working environment.

11 Pre-Internship Training (10%) Consists of workshops organized by the career centre with the collaboration of the lecturer in charge. It includes an internship briefing presented by the lecturer in charge. Students are exposed to the requirements and needs they will face during the industrial attachment. Students are prepared with the international reporting writing, as well as the portfolio briefing.
12 Pre-Internship Training (10%) *Important Note: Attendance is taken. Students are compulsory to attend all the workshops and briefings organized for the purpose of internship. Failure to attend any of these workshop or briefing will lead to a 0/10 mark for the Pre-internship component.
13 Internship Period (Practical 20%) Pre-requisite complete pre-internship training. Student mustattend allthe pre-internship briefings and workshops, in order to proceed to company s placement. Students will be assessed in their capacity to honour the contract of the internship. The Internship Agreement serves as a base of the internship contract between the student, the University and the employer. The conditions required to fulfil the contract include: complete 15 weeks of internship practical; and comply to all company s rules and regulations.
14 Internship Period (Practical 20%) Unjustified absenteeism will be penalized accordingly with the mark deduction below (by number of days). Absent one (1) day - Absent two (2) days - Absent three (3) days- deduct 10% from mark awarded deduct 20% from mark awarded deduct 30% from mark awarded Absent more than four (4) days - ZERO (0) mark for this segment
15 Internship Period (Industry Evaluation 30%) Students will be assessed by their supervisor at the end of the internship. This evaluation assesses the performance and capacities of the intern throughout the internship. This is required from ALL trained department/subdepartment/outlet.
16 Post Internship Report (30%) This module also assesses the ability to meet deadline and to be prepared for the internship, particularly with submitting the required documentation. Key documents (Internship Evaluation Form (IEF), Internship Report & Portfolio) submission deadlines must be strictly adhered to as time management is a highly valued professional skill. AFTER THE INTERNSHIP: The Internship Evaluation Form (IEF), Internship Report & Portfolio are submitted together to Divisional Office by 16 th April 2012 (Monday) 5pm
17 Post Internship Report (30%) Forms and Reports which are submitted late to the Divisional Office will be penalised as follows: Submitted one (1) day after deadline -deduct 5% from mark awarded Submitted two (2) days after deadline -deduct 10% from mark awarded Submitted three (3) days after deadline -deduct 15% from mark awarded Submitted four (4) days after deadline-deduct 20% from mark awarded Submitted five (5) days after deadline -ZERO (0) mark for the report
18 Post Internship Portfolio (10%) Learning outcome assessed University s outcome to assessed students ability to be intentional and reflective learners. The focus will be on the attainment of Taylor s Graduate Capabilities. Students are expected to compile a hardcopy portfolio (photocopied documents) that consists of the following information:
19 Post Internship Portfolio (10%) Academic transcripts and certificates (SPM, A-levels, Diploma, etc.) Testimonials and reference letters from previous institutions/organisations. At least 4 samples of academic subject assignments which showcases your abilities At least 4 samples of non-academic activities. At least 2 trainings attended to enhance skills (with supporting evidence) Reference/recommendation letter from internship supervisor.* CV and personal statement. * Supervisors will only give reference or recommendation letters to subordinates whom they would like to rehire.
