10 1st Plenary Meeting Main Conclusions (1) The very successful 1st esafety Forum Plenary Meeting brought together 150 representatives from industries, European Commission, Member States and other public authorities, and 1) Re-confirmed the need for the esafety Forum, and the high level of interest and continuous commitment of all stakeholders to the initiative 2) Confirmed the structure of the Forum, and Commission leadership esafety Forum 22 April
11 1st Plenary Meeting Main Conclusions (2) 3) Firmly established the Forum as the platform preferred by all stakeholders for continuing efforts in esafety 4) Took note of the excellent work and progress in the first four Working Groups 5) Demonstrated clearly the potential of improving road safety with new ICT technologies, when sufficiently deployed esafety Forum 22 April
12 1st Plenary Meeting Main Conclusions (3) 6) Established four new Working Groups 1. Road Maps (Implementation) DEKRA 2. Real-time Traffic and Travel Information Bosch 3. Research and Development Eucar 4. International co-operation FIA Foundation 7) Highlighted the crucial importance of moving ahead rapidly with the initiative 8) Confirmed Madrid in November 2003 as the next meeting of the Forum, where actual results are expected esafety Forum 22 April
13 1st Plenary Meeting The HL Session (1) 1) Highlighted the role of the Commission as the facilitator of the esafety Process, and acting on its areas of competence such as RTD and regulation 2) Confirmed the commitment of the automotive industry to work together with the Commission and other players in finding solutions for its customers 3) Emphasized the need to consider together the driver, the vehicle and the environment in an integrated way esafety Forum 22 April
14 1st Plenary Meeting The HL Session (2) 4) Highlighted the importance of the participation of the Member States at all levels in the esafety Forum 5) Highlighted the need to invest in Intelligent Roads, and to analyse the benefits of esafety to the society 6) Emphasized the crucial importance of getting esafety into the mainstream of the political programme on Road Safety 7) Indicated how crucial the timing is in getting esafety to the users esafety Forum 22 April

Hollingsworth,, ACEA 1) The current situation: data exists, but Clear definitions missing - need to consider all vehicle types Existing knowledge is not enough Barriers exist on access, methodologies, funding etc 2) Priorities for the future To collect information quickly - not overambitious Be prepared to work on incomplete data Try to ensure follow-up work to validate the predicted impact of technologies esafety Forum 22 April

Hollingsworth,, ACEA 3) Next steps 3) Next steps Collect examples of as many of the existing databases as possible Consider which are the existing databases which can be consolidated Define interrogation models for the consolidated data The data will be incomplete - but should not be used as an excuse for not to analyze the impact of possible countermeasures esafety Forum 22 April
17 ecall (1) Chair: P. d Oultremont, Belgacom 1) Progress so far ecall reconfirmed as the number one priority for esafety ecall and Business Rationale Working Groups working closely together Focus on ecall functional model and role of partners (automotive industry, PSAPs, telecom operators, service providers) Reference to existing ecall systems (public, private) and on-going work (E-112, EMERGE) 2) The target To produce, by the end of the year, an ecall functional model for an European solution esafety Forum 22 April
