The Alzheimer s Association Minnesota-North Dakota has been providing services, information, and advocacy for over 30 years to people with dementia, their families and health care providers. The Alzheimer s Association Minnesota-North Dakota chapter is one of seven founding chapters of the National Alzheimer's Association, headquartered in Chicago. It was started by family caregivers who came together around a common need of getting support and help for their loved ones with dementia. Since 1979, our donor-supported, nonprofit Alzheimer s Association has provided reliable information and care consultation; created supportive services for families; increased funding for dementia research; and influenced public policy changes. The mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer s Association is a member charity of Community Health Charities, an alliance of leading nonprofit health research and service organizations whose mission is to improve lives affected by chronic illness by investing in health research, services, and education. The Alzheimer s Association Minnesota-North Dakota has undergone a review by the Charities Review Council, which evaluated the public disclosure, financial activities, governance and fundraising. This review determined that the Association meets the Council s accountability standards demonstrating integrity and transparency to the people who support us. 3 Page 3 OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Alzheimer s Association Minnesota- North Dakota and is responsible to the board of directors for the overall management of the Chapter and its programs. The Executive Director will provide effective executive leadership for the Alzheimer s Association within the mission and scope of the agency s programs, policies, procedures, and budget. The Executive Director will orchestrate the integration of the Board of Directors, paid and volunteer staff, funders and key stakeholders in achieving chapter outcomes, financial performance and positioning in the community as a premier services, information, and advocacy agency. The Alzheimer s Association Minnesota-North Dakota has a fiscal year budget of $4.2 million dollars and 43 employees. The Executive Director is responsible for coordinating the work of the 5 regional offices as well as maintaining a strong partnership at the national level. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide executive leadership for the Chair, the Board of Directors, key Board Committees, and staff to enable timely and responsible decision making. Lead the management team and, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, develop current operating plans and budgets. Through continual outreach efforts, maintain current donor relationships and build new relationships with potential donors and donor organizations. Develop productive, collaborative relationships with other community groups and the State Legislature whose missions interrelate with and support the Chapter s work to maximize program delivery opportunities. Ensure the adequacy and soundness of the Chapter s financial structure and position. Maintain an organizational climate that attracts, motivates and retains high quality staff by implementing appropriate human resource policies and practices. Identify and execute new opportunities for fundraising, programming, and advocacy. Speak publicly, and serve as a community leader, representing the mission, vision and needs of the Association and the Chapter. Establish for the Chapter and Staff, measures of success and evaluation processes. Assure compliance with all local Chapter and national Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

4 Page 4 QUALIFICATIONS Candidates for this key executive position should be experienced, visionary, and inclusive leaders. Candidates will have a passion for creating a world without Alzheimer s disease. The successful candidate will be a person with a reputation for excellence and integrity. He or she will have proven leadership and fundraising experience, exemplary interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to the mission, vision and values of the Alzheimer s Association. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required and a Master s degree is preferred. Other essential skills and experience include: A demonstrated commitment to excellence. A minimum of seven to ten years of senior management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, or a demonstrated understanding of non-profit management issues through non-profit consulting, board service, etc. Candidates may have a combination of experience in the for-profit and the nonprofit sectors. Demonstrated success in fundraising and familiarity with the Minnesota and North Dakota philanthropic communities strongly preferred Experience in providing leadership for and developing a Board of Directors. Excellent public speaking, media relations, relationship management, and staff management skills. Experience in public advocacy preferred, particularly with the Minnesota and/or North Dakota Legislatures. Knowledge and understanding of Alzheimer s Disease and/or aging issues desired. Knowledge of the Minnesota and North Dakota areas preferred. Demonstrated ability to cultivate an inclusive workplace that fosters staff development and facilitates cross-functional cooperation and teamwork. Demonstrated ability to motivate volunteer participation.

A good listener with a respectful, consultative, and accessible leadership style, selfassured and comfortable with situations of ambiguity, able to relate easily to a wide range of constituencies including staff, directors, donors, volunteers, and a wide variety of community groups. An individual who values and models diversity and inclusion in all its forms. A person who personally involves and welcomes diverse voices in the workplace. Highly competent, a team player, finds enjoyment in the work place, is an honest, open and balanced individual. The candidate should possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and be skilled at communication and collaboration. Flexible and readily available to the Board of Directors, the senior management staff, and a variety of stakeholders. Strong in public speaking and public communications. Passionate about working with and for the Greater Minnesota and North Dakota communities. The ability to appropriately balance the relationship with National Alzheimer s Association leadership with the strong entrepreneurial spirit of a local chapter. COMPENSATION The compensation package for this position is competitive and attractive. It includes an executive pay structure and participation in the organization s comprehensive benefits plan.
