5 The Economic and Workforce Development Landscape in Charlotte, NC The Charlotte area is in the top 25 metropolitan areas in the U.S. Was known as a financial services center but the 2008 recession brought about high unemployment The local leaders stepped up to diversify area industries. Energy was a targeted growth sector New Energy Capital emerged with 4,000 new energy-oriented jobs announced since businesses associated with energy CPCC is providing the talent pipeline for this growing energy sector

Bob Morgan, CEO of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce: It matters greatly that institutions of higher learning have rallied around the energy sector and deployed resources toward the goal of matching worker skills with employer needs.

8 Background Developing the Workforce at Siemens (Connecting through Customized Training) CPCC and Siemens have partnered for over a decade When the expansion was announced, the NCCCS office worked with Siemens and CPCC to provide $4-5 million in customized training funds over 4-5 years President Obama recognized the CPCC and Siemens partnership in his 2012 State of the Union address

9 The 5 Critical Success Factors of the Partnership with CPCC and Siemens 1. Developed an understanding of required workforce competencies by working with the SME s. 2. Guided by a mutually developed project plan with milestone dates 3. Constant Communications weekly meetings to address changes needed and share successes

Flexible, responsive training to help the potential workforce pipeline have the competencies needed (blueprint reading and advanced technologies) 5. Use of all College resources to provide effective client services (i.e. curriculum programs, continuing education programs, records management, procurement and financial services)
