1 Manager s New Hire Checklist As a hiring manager, there are a number f activities t be cmpleted bth befre and after yur new hire s start date t ensure a smth transitin int the cmpany. Remembering hw and when t cmplete these activities can be verwhelming! This jb aid was created t make this prcess as easy fr yu as pssible with the verall bjective f prviding a genuine welcme fr yur new hire and creating a psitive impressin. After all, research tells us effectively acclimating new emplyees is the first step in the retentin prcess! S read n and begin taking actin n the fllwing items. That link is Prir t yur new hire s arrival: Welcme Letter Send yur new hire a welcme letter r nte upn their acceptance (available n the link prvided abve) Assign wrkstatin Make sure the wrkstatin is ready fr ccupancy Remve ld equipment/ items Clean if needed Stck with basic ffice supplies Place a welcme sign in the wrkstatin Prepare mail slt Equipment, Tls and/r Systems access As sn as the new emplyee has been laded int the SAP HR system and a user name and emplyee number have been assigned, g t where yu can begin rdering the tls, technlgy and system access required by yur new hire. (Since rdering technlgy can smetimes take lnger than expected, begin this prcess as sn as pssible.) 2 2 Emplyee File Create a persnal file fr the new hire fr yur manager s file Include ffer letter, resume & jb requisitin Distributin Lists Add new hire t departmental list, birthday list, anniversary list, etc. Buddy/ Mentr Assign a buddy r mentr t the new hire. This persn shuld prvide a pint f cntact fr general queries regarding day-t-day peratinal (hw-t) issues and help prvide a smth and cmfrtable transitin int the cmpany fr yur new hire. Infrmatin n the Buddy Prgram can be fund n Caseweb > Human Resurces > HR Frms > New Hire Orientatin/ On-barding ( Pre-Plan and Schedule Calendars fr New Hire s 1 st Day Schedule apprpriate meetings and welcme such as: Receptin Management meetings Mentr meeting Caching n technlgy used n jb (cmputer, vic , etc.) Plan fr and Dcument New Hire s Agenda Discuss this agenda with yur new hire n their 1 st day. Yur new hire will feel valued if yu are prepared and anticipating their arrival. Grand Rapids Based New Hire: 1 st Day (am) at Steelcase (activities t be cmpleted with Human Resurces): Orientatin with HR All Grand Rapids based new hires will attend/ participate in rientatin with Human Resurces. This rientatin will cnsist f: Cmpletin f paperwrk Overview f plicies and emplyee handbk ID Badge: Fr CDC residents the hiring manager will need t fill ut the CDC Building Access frm. This frm can be btained frm the CDC receptinist. Upn cmpletin f the frm the new hire will need t have their picture taken. This can be dne n Tuesdays between 1:30 and 5:00pm in the CDC Lbby ffice. Fr all ther Grand Rapids buildings new hires will g t Prtectin Services fllwing rientatin t btain their ID badge. (N actin required by manager.) Prtectin Services is lcated at the CDC and badges and parking passes can be btained n Mndays between 1:30 4:30pm. Parking Pass: Fr all new hires in Grand Rapids, MI, parking passes will be rdered by Prtectin Services. It will take apprximately tw weeks t receive. New emplyees will receive a temprary pass when they get their picture ID. (N actin required by manager.) These curses are fcused n helping all new emplyees apply knwledge and skills essential fr being an effective Steelcase emplyee, regardless f jb r gegraphic lcatin. Yur new emplyee will receive a cpy f this Learning Plan frm Human Resurces n their first day f emplyment. Assuming yu and yur new hire have assigned the Fundatinal Curriculum t their T-D (instructins n page 5), yur new hire shuld be able t lcate these curses easily by simply lgging in t the Steelcase University ( and clicking n the Activities tlbar then T D as shwn belw. As the manager, yu will need t allcate time fr yur new hire t cmplete these required curses designated per the schedule that fllws.
