1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE : DEPARTMENT : LOCATION : DAYS WORKED : Programme Leader (Banking, Finance and Accounting) Business School Fitzwilliam House Full time, permanent JOB PURPOSE To be responsible to the Programme Director for implementing the academic leadership of the programmes, including the maintenance and enhancement of standards, the day to day management of the programme including its delivery and development, and observing and implementing the policies and procedures of the University College and the School. Contribute to the academic and corporate mission of the Programme and its implementation as an active participant within the University College and School committee structures, ensuring clarity of identity, currency of subject agendas, relevance of learning methods and the fulfilment of appropriate standards at each level of study, with a focus on growth and increasing volume substantially across national and, where appropriate, international centres. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB Academic Leadership Provide the vision for the Programme Group, set the agenda for its development and maintaining and enhancing quality. Undertake the effective monitoring of the programme and lead enhancement activities. Contribute to, and where appropriate lead on the process of programme development, minor modifications, major changes, validation, revalidation and review by the University College, external agencies and professional bodies in liaison with relevant School Committees and Senior Management Team. Analyse data on student progression and achievement with a view to identifying issues and trends and formulating appropriate action in response. Contribute to the work of the academic committees of the School, University College and, where appropriate, act as Chair. Learning, Teaching and Assessment Ensure that the learning (teaching and assessment) methods employed on the Programme are appropriate to the resources allocated, the demands of the subject and the learning styles and developmental stages of the students. Contribute to University College committees, such as Assessment Panels, Boards of Examiners and their sub-boards, as appropriate.

2 Undertake such teaching duties as are appropriate to the requirements of the programme and consistent with your areas of expertise. Student Support and Guidance Ensure that students enrolled on the Programme are appropriately supported and provided with timely and constructive guidance for their academic development and pastoral care, fulfilling the policies and procedures of the University College and the School and utilising appropriate channels and media Contribute to information provided to students by the University College, School and Programme Student Progression Architecture In liaison with the Academic Administration Coordinator/Programme Manager, ensure that student records are maintained which are current, accurate and constructive, including Entry profiles, Attendance records, Achievement and progression, Support needs. Be responsible for and, where appropriate, lead the recruitment and selection processes applicable to the Programme, ensuring the correct delivery of the University College Admissions Policy Managerial Contribute to the leadership and management of the Programme by working with academic, administrative, managerial and technical colleagues to ensure quality, consistency and clarity of programme delivery. Work with colleagues across the School to ensure the highest possible standards of student experience in terms of: ~ Programme promotion (provision of material, contribution to open days and other recruitment activities on and off-site) ~ Student progression ~ Student recruitment ~ Student induction ~ Learning support ~ Disability support Produce reports and management information as required

3 Financial Management and Enterprise Where needs analysis is undertaken, programme development through to client presentations on the benefits of the Business School programmes. Support business development activities and marketing where necessary. In the particular, corporate entry (closed) programmes where the programme may change by up to 30% to take account of client requirements. Promote a culture of enterprise within the Programme Team and amongst the student community, and manage the Programme Group budget to ensure effective and efficient cost control and management. In liaison with appropriate colleagues, including the Programme Team, develop business-related, sponsorship and income generating opportunities and activities connected with the programme/subject and research activities, including the development of full cost programmes and consultancy services. Contribute to the income generating activities of the School, including the development of and active participation in recruitment activities. Professional Engagement Establish and maintain appropriate dialogues and relationships with the subject community (academic, governmental and commercial) and its audiences, nationally and internationally, continually updating knowledge of national academic developments, subject and skills, and relevant industrial and technological developments for the benefit of the programme, colleagues and students. Undertake scholarship and/or professional practice to maintain your subject currency as part of own continuing professional development to ensure you maintain your position as a leader in your field, actively promoting and contributing to the professional and scholarship profile of the Programme, as an individual and through research groups and / or consultancy projects. Support and contribute to the Programme, School and University College s external profile. Contribute positively to the development of the broader academic and cultural direction of the School as required.

4 ROLE INFORMATION Department: Undergraduate / Postgraduate Location: London City / Manchester / Birmingham Responsible to: Director of Programmes Responsible for: Programme Managers Key Relationships: School Senior Management Team, University College Executive Management, Operations and Deployment Managers, and Academic Staff Status: Full-Time / Permanent Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00am 6:00pm) Work outside the normal span of hours may be required on occasion. HEALTH AND SAFETY All employees are responsible for reading, understanding and carrying out the requirements of the University College s Health and Safety policy and for informing a relevant person if they become aware of any non-compliance with the policy or of any identified training needs. HOURS OF WORK The Business School is operational between 8.00am and 9.00pm Monday through Sunday and you will be required to work between these hours as arranged with your Manager. CONTINUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Business School requires individuals to identify and analyse their own training and development needs and to actively participate in the design of a development plan to meet these needs and the needs of the School. This may be achieved through the appraisal process. The post holder should recognise and take advantage of development opportunities and should periodically review their own progress towards meeting previously agreed goals and objectives. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The post holder may be required to work outside of normal academy hours on occasion, with due notice. The post holder will be required to handle both professional and business information that is of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.

5 Knowledge, experience and qualifications required Commercially focussed with leadership and coaching skills Strong experience of pre client meetings Innovative approach to programme design and delivery Expertise in teaching and developing modules across the programmes Strong knowledge and understanding how your relevant programmes are used within the main industry sectors of: - public sector - professional firms and - industry and commerce Ability to translate the needs and of objectives of the business, in line with the wider group agenda. A self starter with a proven track record of delivering on time, on budget and using your own initiative Excellent communication skills The ability to challenge and inspire people to engage in change processes.
