2 Task 1 Looking at job adverts Elizabeth Roberts is looking for a job. She sees this advertisement for summer workers at a leisure centre. Part-time jobs 25 hours per week, twelve week contract General cleaner 6.15 per hour Waitress 6.55 per hour Life guard 6.75 per hour Snack bar assistant 5.95 per hour Elizabeth wants to know how the wages compare. 6 Elizabeth has applied for a different job as a sales assistant at a company which makes kitchens. Mr Johnson works for the company. He must plan interviews for the sales assistant post. He must: interview 6 people start the interviews at 9.30am allow 50 minutes for each interview allow between 15 and 20 minutes after each interview for discussion and toilet breaks. He also knows that the interview panel wishes to break for lunch for one hour at around 12.30pm. Interviews may not continue after 4pm. The interviews are due to be held on Monday 26 th April but they may continue on Tuesday 27th April. Task 2a Use the space on the next page to work out start and end times for each interview. 8 The company s office is 10 minutes walking distance from either the coach or the train station. Elizabeth needs to arrive at the office by twenty past eleven. She is travelling from Wakefield to Sheffield It takes Elizabeth 25 minutes to walk to the train station or 15 minutes to walk to the coach station from her house. In both cases she needs to allow an extra 10 minutes to collect her tickets. Here is some information about the train and coach journeys. 12 Task 3 Starting work This office has 5 desks. Mr Johnson must now make room for an extra desk for Elizabeth. Each office worker sits at a desk which is 1.5 metres long and 0.75 metres wide.
