1 MERCY HEALTH TRAINING INSTITUTE POSITION DESCRIPTION Contractor Trainer and Assessor Core Mercy Values Compassion, Hospitality, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship, Teamwork Position title: Contract Trainer and Assessor Name: Entity/Group: Mercy Health Business Unit/Department: Position reports to: Position Purpose: Qualifications & Requirements: Mercy Health Training Institute Mercy Health General Manager Learning & Mercy Health Training Institute Compliance Manager Positions reporting to this one: To deliver Nationally Recognised Training to learners of Mercy Health Institute which may also include facilitation of non-accredited programs. TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment An appropriate industry qualification with extensive current industry experience NIL Experience working in the VET Sector as a Trainer and Assessor. This position may require travel to Mercy Health s facilities in Victoria, ACT, WA and NSW for the purpose of delivering training and assessment.

Demonstrated capacity to plan, research, schedule and meet agreed deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of learner and staff information and Mercy Health / Mercy Health Training Institute information. Punctuality is expected for all agreed duties including training sessions, meetings, supervising of learners and practical placements.
3 Promote and uphold the V alues and Mission of Mercy Health. The values of Mercy Health are incorporated into daily work practices. Be compassionate and provide support to others. Consistently shows respect and values each person s dignity. Seeks opportunities to be innovative for improvement Core values are reflected in work performance. Responsible for the delivery, assessment and evaluation of training and assessment programs. Participate in the preparation and maintenance of training resources and learning materials including session plans and learning activities for the different modes of delivery offered by MHTI. Plan, implement and evaluate training sessions for students enrolled in training. Establish and maintain a positive learning environment, including encouraging learners to take responsibility for their own learning. Supervise and monitor learner progress and provide appropriate feedback to learners and Program Coordinator where required. Assess learners against required standards, accurately record achievement and provide timely feedback to students. A turn around of no more that 10 working days is desirable as per MHTI Assessment procedure. Facilitate, monitor the learning and conduct assessments of learners as requested. Supervise the learning and conduct assessments of students on practical placements, where requested and within area of expertise. Facilitate, monitor the learning and conduct assessments of students enrolled in on-line courses as requested by the Program Coordinator. Demonstrated planning and coordination skills to deliver sessions in required time frames as per Training Plans. Assist with the development of course materials, resources and assessments for various modes of delivery as required. (Resources developed whilst being paid under a sub-contractor arrangement will be the intellectual property of MHTI). Participation in Validation and Moderation Meetings. Training sessions are delivered according to session plans and Training and Assessment Strategies, whilst developing a stimulating learning environment by using a variety of styles, techniques and approaches to present subject matter and practical techniques as part of the learning program. Feedback on learner progress is communicated to the student via the appropriate channels and reported to the program coordinator on a regular basis, as per MHTI procedure. Facilitate online learning to ensure learner achieves required outcomes (if applicable). Learner assessments are conducted according to MHTI policy and procedures. Conduct Recognition of Prior Learning Interview (RPL) as per MHTI Policy and Procedure as requested. Undertake evaluation of training sessions for continuous improvement. Support MHTI s relationship with industry boards and other peak bodies. Produce summary reports on training groups as requested. Ability to work without autonomously and without supervision. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with learner groups Confidentiality of written and verbal information maintained at all times. General understanding of RTO Compliance Framework. Ensures all delivery of Training and Assessment meets required compliance at all times and work closely with the Compliance Manager and Program Coordinator. Follow policies and procedures to the highest compliance standards Ensure the required VET Trainer and Assessor qualifications as deemed by the NSSC (National Skills Standards Council) are maintained at all times.
5 Promotes professional development of self and colleagues. Attendance at appropriate in-service sessions. Attend relevant meetings. Participates in the performance evaluation processes annually. Recognises own level of competence and seeks advice/assistance as necessary. Ensure Police and Working with Children Checks (if applicable) are updated and provided to the Compliance Manager annually. Complete and maintain MHTI Professional Development Log yearly, ensuring professional development incudes the specialised delivery area and Vocational Education and Training, to maintain currency of Industry skills and knowledge. Complete and update Trainer Skills Mapping Matrix and provide to Compliance Manager as required. Be available to participate in any Regulatory Body Audits if /when required. Assist in the implementation of Continuous Improvement strategies. Attendance at Trainer Meetings as per yearly schedule. Achievement of satisfactory performance appraisals. Readily shares knowledge and skills and offers support to colleagues to facilitate a continuous learning approach to all. Takes reasonable care to protect the health and safety of themselves, fellow staff and others in the workplace. Reports any hazards, near misses and injuries immediately Comply with risk management policies and procedures and instruction Complete MHTI WHS Training Venue Hazard Checklist for any new training venues visited and implement a hazard strategy immediately if required.
