1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC (New position) Job rate: $6, per month Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 34,000 students and 3,000 employees in 88 schools and other sites. This position performs a range of skilled repair and maintenance work on automobiles, light trucks and small engine equipment. Services include inspection, diagnose, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and other defects on vehicles. The work includes tuneups, relining and adjusting brakes, tire replacement and balancing, steering gears, starters, generators, universal joints, and minor body repair. The work is carried out using hand tools and power equipment. The job may be required to supervise and coach staff to achieve smooth work flow by delegating assignments to subordinates or explaining procedures to co-workers. The job also supports department staff with handling peak workloads or large projects. The nature of the work requires the incumbent to be fit and strong, prepared to lift heavy machinery and parts and well-versed in safety procedures. This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hrs. /week) to commence as soon as possible. Qualifications: High School diploma, plus possession of an Alberta Journeyman Motor Mechanic Certificate currently employed in the trade; Several years related experience including operating machines, tractors, loaders, heavy trucks, mowers, sweepers, compressors and large pneumatic and electrical tools; Knowledge of anti-locking braking systems, sensors and modules, OBD II Code Reader scanning system; Knowledge of the safe use of power and manual tools and equipment; Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS); Knowledge of Microsoft programs including the system, electronic databases and the Internet Knowledge of different formula conversions(ex. metric/standard, Fahrenheit to Celsius, Kilograms to pounds); Good time management skills with the ability to schedule and prioritize work; Good communications skills and fluency in the English language - both verbal and written is mandatory; Valid Alberta driver s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. Respond to problem notification service, repair and restore emergency power plant engines in the various schools 4. Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs. 5. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. 6. Monitor reports on these engines and maintain records of service. 7. Lubricate, service and repair vehicles and tractors. 8. Drive and operate dump trucks, tractor with associated attachments, sweeper and operate mowers, tampers and large air tools. 9. Instruct custodial staff and co-workers on care and operation of mowers, blowers, sweepers and power plant engines 10. Assist department staff on a variety of projects and provide cover-off during absences 11. Assist with and/or direct ground construction and maintenance projects 12. Maintain technical knowledge through courses, workshops, seminars and trade publications

4 PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Describe the demanding aspects of the job The work requires the incumbent to lift up to 50 kilograms, insert hands in confined areas, climb, stand and balance on ladders. The nature of the duties requires the incumbent to have the ability to work under vehicles while on a hoist or on the shop floor. In performing the various aspects of the work the incumbent will be required to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl to repair vehicles. Mechanics should be fit and strong, prepared to lift heavy machinery and parts, and should be aware of safety procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe any unpleasant aspects of the job (e.g., heat, cold, odours, noise, work interruptions and, outside work, danger, etc.). Since there is risk of injury when working on vehicles, mechanics must wear personal protective equipment and follow safety programs and legislation. The work is performed in a repair shop that is well-lit and well-ventilated. However, the environment is often noisy and the incumbent will work with dirty and greasy car parts, often in difficult positions.
