1 Seminar European Project Management Academy: From theory to practice in 4 steps Maastricht (NL), 7-11 November 2016 European Institute of Public Administration Institut européen d administration publique Erasmus+ Introduction Target group This intensive five-day training course is designed for project managers, desk officers and officials of public, private and international organisations, NGOs and universities who are interested in the implementation of EC and other internationally and nationally funded programmes and projects. The seminar is also relevant for managing authorities (national and regional) who receive support from Structural Funds to inform potential beneficiaries, select the projects and generally monitor implementation of the programmes. Description & objectives Project management can be described as the planning, organising, securing, monitoring and managing of the necessary resources and work to deliver specific project goals and objectives in an effective and efficient way. Today s organisations manage projects within increasingly complex environments that are driven by regulatory changes and organisational reforms. Current key project initiatives that organisations must manage include the new EU programming period ( ) and new regulations, guidelines, product development, outsourcing and policy implementation, in addition to traditional, but vital, system development and implementation. Given the projects strategic impact, organisations must implement effective project management processes that measure progress and risks and ensure that the right results and objectives are delivered in accordance with organisational priorities. The main objective of the EIPA Project Management Academy is to present and combine the essential elements of modern and effective project management, including current trends, techniques, tools and best practices, in order to provide a complete project management training programme. The course will incorporate elements from a wide range of globally accepted project management best practices, as described in standards and methodologies (European Commission standard project management guidelines and the Logical Framework Approach (PCM, Pm², PMBOK and PRINCE2)), as well as operational experiences from various international organisations and professional services firms (such as the European Commission, United Nations, Ernst & Young, and PWC). All project phases, from initiation to closure, will be explained. From theory to practice in 4 steps: 1. Initiation and business case 2. Planning 3. Execution 4. Closure Learning methodology The seminar will be comprise a combination of theoretical explanations and practical exercises. Each step will be explained and tools, techniques, templates and examples of implemented methodologies and projects will be presented. Working groups will require a participatory approach and roleplays, and will receive feedback during plenary question & answer sessions. To assess the training needs and to ensure the same level of learning objectives, registered participants will undergo a short electronic assessment of their project management general knowledge. This assessment will also help the EIPA project leader to select the relevant project examples and topics to be used in the working groups. Participants will have the chance to choose to work on their own projects during the course.

Operational experiences from the European Commission and Ernst & Young Monitoring & control process and report: Methodologies, tools and techniques to track and manage the status of various dimensions of a project s progress and develop a document to summarise such for the purpose of communicating it to relevant project stakeholders.
