1 Position Reports to Chemistry Technician Chemistry Team Leader Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: August 2014 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose In the initial phases this position will be responsible for helping the Chemistry Team Leader in setting up the Chemistry Laboratory by organising the resources needed for testing, method and instruments validation, as well as helping in setting up the laboratory Quality system under ISO17025 to obtain the IANZ accreditation. The role will also be responsible for building relationships with external providers and ensuring that current testing requirements are efficient, effective and value for money. After the commissioning of the onsite laboratory, this position will be responsible for carrying out testing and obtaining a key technical person status whilst maintaining the relationship with the external providers. Key Performance Areas Leadership Work closely with the Chemistry Team leader to add methods to the chemistry testing scope including equipment needed which are to be done onsite Be an active and visible contributor to the Laboratory team on day to day basis Communicate and provide expertise in the development and implementation of quality initiatives. Communicate all laboratory issues to the Chemistry Team Leader as they arise. Resource Management Ensure that the Laboratory Manager is provided with accurate and timely commentary on the operating cost and variations to budget Maintain a sound inventory system for reagents, chemicals, reference material, equipment, glassware and consumables ensuring that we do not run out and productivity is maximised Manage personal annual and sick leave balances Chemistry Technician PD August 2014 Page 1 of 7

2 Key Performance Areas Laboratory Services Ensure that all chemistry results are communicated efficiently and effectively, using the identified process. Complete testing as per the required test method or customer specific method for the in-process and final product. Ensure all customer (internal and external) issues are communicated to the Chemistry Team Leader effectively and efficiently and all out of specification results are communicated to the production team within a specified time. Achieve a TAT of 7 days or better for internally tested products. Help the Chemistry Team Leader to maintain regular support to the Quality and Manufacturing team to enhance in-process testing results. Make results data trends available to the Quality and Production teams. Support the Chemistry Team Leader to initiate and participate in OOS, deviations, atypical results, invalid result investigations and closure. Use LIMS effectively Participate in method verification or validation, equipment qualification, calibration, cleaning and maintenance. Maintain current, complete, legible laboratory records in compliance with good laboratory practices. Help in writing and revising documents, procedures and SOPs related to the Chemistry Laboratory. Monitor quality trends and abnormalities informing the Chemistry Team Leader of quality issues to enable immediate corrective action. Chemistry Technician PD August 2014 Page 2 of 7

Motivate fellow team members to comply with and participate in best practice principles. Help the Chemistry Team Leader in writing and revising the Health and Safety SOP for the Laboratory. Participate in Health and Safety training for the lab such as spill response, first aid and fire warden and ensure there is always a member from each of these three groups present when the work is done in the lab. Ensure all injuries, accidents and near miss are reported through the designated H &S process. Ensure the lab is clean and presentable at all times Quality Assurance /Risk management Help the Chemistry team gain and maintain ISO17025 accreditation. Support the Chemistry Team Leader to conduct internal audits as per ISO17025 standards Take part in the required ILCP programmes. Act to immediately to close any NCs raised in any customer or regulatory audits. Comply with all relevant company policies and delegations Comply with all Quality Assurance / ISO systems Team Work Work with others to contribute to team and group outcomes Demonstrate active support of Synlait Milk values and exhibit behaviours that are consistent with them Keep up-to-date with business developments in the company and gain an understanding of the company s vision, mission and strategy. 7 Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Chemistry. Experience: Laboratory experience in a chemistry laboratory is essential Hands on experience on one or more of the following analytical instruments/techniques-hplc, GC, ICP, IC and LC/MS. Sound experience in dairy chemistry testing. Experience with use of LIMS will be an advantage Experience in Chemistry method verification and validation and writing SOPs will be an advantage. Skills: Strong capability in problem solving and decision making skills Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to work under pressure and regularly meets deadlines in a multi-tasking environment. Excellent customer relationship management skills Computer Literacy in MS words and Excel Ability to work competently and effectively on your own and as a team member. Competent technical skills and good laboratory skills. Knowledge of cglp and cgmp. Able to conduct laboratory internal audits and has a sound knowledge of ISO Able to interpret analytical methods such as USP, FCC, BP, AOAC ISO etc. and verify and validate methods.
