4 Goals Power of Clarity and Simplicity Get crystal clear on what you really want and why name it and claim it! Only establish goals and action plans for important wants don t major in minor things Set priorities among competing demands use discrimination Stop wasting time and energy on low priority, low value activities remove clutter and distractions use discipline Concentrate focus, energy and efforts on high priority, high value activities those that move you closer to your vision Bottom line, with clarity of focus, you can do less and achieve more. 14 Creating the Vision What is Vision? Vision creating an attractive future (direction and destiny) that excites your team to pursue Ask yourself better and bigger questions Powerful visions galvanize groups and take them to new places and heights 14

15 The Basics Direct your ship get the right people on your ship and throw the wrong people overboard Give them the motivation, tools, training and authority to be successful Coach them, challenge them, hold them accountable Do you want a culture of results or excuses? Lack of accountability is a deadly mistake Meetings are held, decisions made, follow through Don t try to be popular or liked try to be respected! Pleasing everyone is a sure disaster 15

16 Accountability Basics Never let a committee or group be accountable Have a single, clearly identified Champion for each major goal For each written goal, establish a deadline, desired outcomes, etc. clarity of expectations and standards Conduct regularly scheduled follow up meetings and have a tight agenda Demand results praise progress, deal with lack of progress sternly 16

25 Power of a Written Plan People that have a written plan for the day accomplish in six hours what another person without a written plan requires eight hours to accomplish. Written plans immediately increases your efficiency and that of your team by +25% by having write down their daily plans. The 25% increase in efficiency adds to the bottom line without adding any cost only changing behavior and expectations. A daily plan should list only 70 80% of what can be actually accomplished (otherwise a setup for failure) More work gets done at the beginning of the day when people are the freshest and most alert. You and your team feel better about your careers, and employee turnover rates go down, and training costs go down. 25
