1 Overview Unit Code: HLTAID002 Unit Title: Provide basic emergency life support AQF Level: II Industry: Numerous Sub Industry: Numerous Training Package: HLT Version: Site Locations: Perth and throughout WA Licensing/Regulations: See industry standards (recommended to requalify every 3 years) Funding Available: No Nominal Hours: Apprenticeship Training: No School-Based Training: Yes International Students: No Unit Description This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. This unit can be contextualised to the workplace as required. Learners and Clients Learners can be completing CPR for the first time or completing it as part of their yearly requalification. For many candidates it is a requirement to gain or maintain employment. The identified target groups for the unit are broad ranging from those in the workforce, school, and unemployed with ages ranging from 14 years and up Pre-requisite Mode of Delivery Delivery will take place over 8 hours This course comprises of two main components: 1. Face-to-face classroom based training using workplace scenarios and procedures, or using available facilities if course is contextualised to a specific organisation 2. Written questionnaire (can be complete prior to course commencement where required) Maximum candidate numbers are capped at 20 per course The course can be completed in any of RLSSWA locations or at a specific organisation as requested. 2 Learning and Assessment Resources All resources have been developed by RLSSWA Adult Manikins 1 between 2 Infant manikins 1 between 2 AED 1 large training device for demonstration AED 5 mini training devices for candidate use 5 per 20 Resources specific for the Trainer/Assessor to deliver the qualification: Participant written assessment Participant observation guide Assessor guide Assessment Mapping Learner guide Learner Support Learners are encouraged to advise the trainer of any language, literacy and numeracy support needs prior to commencement of the course so that reasonable adjustments can be made to delivery and assessment. Assessment rules and Appeals Process If the candidates first submission is deemed not satisfactory they will be allowed two further attempts. This is to be negotiated with the candidate. They are entitled to appeal if they are not satisfied with the assessment process or outcome. Reasonable adjustment in the assessment process: Adjustments to assessments may be made for you, providing the adjustments comply with the principles of assessment and rules of evidence If you require support for literacy and numeracy issues; change to assessment times/venues; considerations relating to, gender & cultural beliefs; format of assessment materials; or presence of a scribe you need to inform your lecturer. Necessary adjustments can be discussed with the trainer prior to the commencement of the course. 4 Training and Assessment Staff Staff As per RLSSWA systematic approval Delivery (D) Assessment (A) Supervised (S) D & A Training and/or Assessment Competencies See Trainer and Assessor Competency Matrix Vocational Competencies and Industry Skills See Trainer and Assessor Competency Matrix Training and assessment are conducted by trainers and assessors who: a) Have the necessary training and assessment competencies at least to the level being delivered or assessed b) Have the relevant vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered or assessed c) Continue developing their vocational and training and assessment competencies to support continuous improvements in delivery of our services Evidence of staff competencies are in their matrix file. Validation Process This training program and assessments have been developed by Royal Life Saving WA Trainers and Assessors. The program s effectiveness will be measured through feedback forms, staff and client feedback, industry consultation, complaints and appeals processes. The program will be continuously improved to reflect this feedback. Post validation will occur once the course has been complete to show assessment outcomes and judgements are valid against the unit of competency, principles of assessment and rules of evidence. The program will be formally reviewed at least once a year however more often if required. It will also be reviewed if there is a new Training Package version or update, change in staff, or non-compliance Activity Date People Involved Validation As per schedule Infrastructure Requirements: Suitable communication equipment Suitable classrooms with equipment and resources All trainers, including full-time, part-time and casual trainers involved in the delivery and assessment of this qualification, have direct access to the current version of the relevant course documents and Training Packages which include the appropriate units of competency, assessment guidelines and qualification structure. All trainers, as above, involved in the delivery of the programme, have access to trainer, assessor and trainee support materials relevant to their areas of delivery and assessment. All assessors have access to print and electronic copies of the assessment instruments that are used in this programme. Clients have access to staff and training/assessment resources to ensure the program meets their requirements. All trainers, as above, have support access to resources to help students with special needs and have an assessment process that incorporates reasonable adjustment procedures.
