1 EDUCATION SUPPORT OFFICER Cardijn College Position Information Document Name: Position Title: Maintenance Officer Employment: Permanent Replacement Temporary x Commencement date: / / 2016 Full Time/Part-time FTE Weeks Worked Per Year Key Working Relationships Principal Business Manager Senior Staff Teachers and ESOs Broad Purpose The non-teaching staff fulfil a vital role in supporting the education program of the College. They must support the aims and philosophy of the school by making a positive contribution to the development of a Christian community. The non-teaching staff must be aware of and comply with the Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare policies and practices of the College. Occasionally non-teaching staff may be required to attend professional development sessions conducted at the College or elsewhere, within or outside of the employee s normal working hours. The non-teaching staff are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the College community and to support school activities and functions. They may be required to assist with the supervision of students or other allocated tasks at major school events such as sport carnivals, Masses and other activities. Nonteaching staff shall attend staff meetings and other meetings as required. Description of Position The ESO has a responsibility to the Maintenance Coordinator and the Business Manager but is ultimately responsible to the Principal. The ESO will maintain a close working relationship with the Maintenance Coordinator and the Business Manager to ensure that the College s general maintenance requirements are met.

2 2 DUTY STATEMENT Key Areas of Work General Maintenance and Grounds Assist Building and Maintenance Coordinator as directed Perform maintenance and collection of waste and recycle as directed Perform maintenance and ensure cleanliness of school grounds as directed Other duties as directed by the Business Manager and/or Principal WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY Commitment Support the development and maintenance of a best practice WHS culture within the workplace Adhere to safe work practices Encourage colleagues and others on the worksite to adhere to safe work practices Be responsible for WHS and maintenance in any area or classroom designated Provide appropriate WHS training for persons using designated areas Legal and Policy Requirements Comply with all relevant policies and procedures Improve systems of work and safe practices Plans and Budgets Implement relevant actions in WHS plans as required Performance and Training Participate in relevant WHS training programs Provide appropriate WHS training for persons using designated areas Include WHS goals and responsibilities in their role descriptions and performance plans in consultation with their supervisor Risk Management and Hazard Control Report hazards and unsafe workplace practices associated with the workplace to their supervisor Suggest improvements or recommend changes to avoid, eliminate or minimise workplace hazards

3 Incident Reporting and Investigation 3 Report work related injuries and incidents in accord with the Catholic Church Safety Manual Participate in the investigation of potential hazards, dangerous occurrences, WHS incidents and near misses in accord with the Catholic Church Safety Manual Consultation Raise WHS issues with their work colleagues, supervisor or local WHS committee and assist with their resolution Regularly discuss WHS issues with other staff at staff meetings Regularly consult with colleagues on WHS issues and actively participate in WHS committees if required Monitoring Monitor and evaluate their WHS performance Monitor the health, safety and well-being of work colleagues to ensure they can undertake their work safely Participate in workplace WHS inspections/audits and assist in the maintenance of WHS facilities, resources, equipment and information Monitor workplace WHS performance and progress of the WHS action plan for the site SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Acquire and maintain: Police Clearance to work in Catholic Education SA Approved Mandatory Notification training First Aid training Be aware of and comply with police check and screening procedures for employees, volunteers and contractors. Other: Perform any other duties as required from time to time by the Principal PERFORMANCE REVIEW The employee must undertake a performance review on an annual basis On the first anniversary of appointment and biennially thereafter, or at another mutually agreed time, consultation will occur between the employer and the employee to ensure that the duty statement is accurate. 4 Maintenance Officer Job and Person Specification Person Specification The Maintenance Officer will possess: an understanding of and a capacity to support the Catholic ethos of the College an ability to work within a team in the provision of maintenance and other works within the College a capacity to model a culture of cooperation, selfless assistance and professionalism within the maintenance team an ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with other members of the College staff excellent interpersonal and communication skills an ability to be resourceful, flexible and self-motivated to work both independently and under direction the ability to quality control their own work to a high standard the ability to receive feedback on performance and adjust accordingly Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience The Maintenance Officer will possess: a range of trade related skills the capacity to operate maintenance related machinery and implements hands-on trade experience current knowledge of WH&S procedures Remuneration The commencing salary for this position is $54326(Full time equivalent per annum) in accordance with the South Australian Catholic Schools Enterprise Agreement (2010 as amended). Salary may be negotiated based upon the successful applicant s qualifications and experience.
