Competencies: connection, cultural competency, implementation, social responsibility Adelante Volunteering Information Session Saturday, 11:20-11:35 AM Volunteer with this STEM-focused college-bound program that works with middle school students and their parents from the Norristown Area School District. Through this program, students engage in college-prep workshops and STEM-related activities to develop the necessary skills to not only become competitive college applicants but also college graduates. Competencies: communication, cultural competency, implementation Ardmore Community Tutoring & Parkway West High School Tutoring - Information Session Saturday, 11:40-11:55 AM Are you eligible for Federal Work study through your financial aid package? If so, learn about how you can earn work study funds by tutoring elementary, middle and high school students in reading and math. First year students are ineligible for this program. Competencies: connection, implementation, social responsibility Be a Change Agent: Best Practices for Student Activists Saturday, 12:20-12:35 PM 1
2 At this session we will talk about activism from the student perspective. How can you impact change on campus? What do student activists need to know to be effective? How can activists better support one another on campus? We will also look at on and off campus resources that can help support student activists. Competences: implementation, social responsibility Belmont Mentoring - Volunteering Information Session Saturday, 12:00-12:15 PM Are you interested in mentoring an elementary school student? Learn more about how BMC students are matched with Belmont Elementary School students for one-on-one mentoring. Competencies: connection, cultural competency, implementation, social responsibility BMC Community Garden - Volunteering Information Session Saturday, 12:20-12:35 PM Are you interested in gardening and sustainability? Learn more about the BMC Community Garden and how you can help maintain the garden by volunteering at harvesting and planting days each semester. Competencies: conceptual thinking, connection, implementation, social responsibility Bryn Mawr Buddies - Volunteering Information Session Saturday, 11:00-11:15 AM Learn how you can be paired with a recent immigrant elementary school student who speaks the same language as you. You'll visit your little buddy once a week at his or her school to help your buddy adjust to life in the U.S. Volunteers must be fluent or native speakers in a foreign language. Competencies: connection, cultural competency, implementation, social responsibility Build a bridge beyond Bryn Mawr. Really. We're building bridges. Learn core values of writing and researching effectively, to get the money your program, company, or project needs! This session will provide a quick overview of gap year programs, what they are looking for, and how to find them. You will observe and participate in exercises that use outlandish and comedic situations to help you feel comfortable playing with your narratives.
