SPECIFIC OUTCOMES After completion of this module, the students will be able to: 9.1 Analyse the challenges facing Human Resource Management locally as well as internationally. 9.2 Assist HR in recruitment, selection and placement of suitable candidates for job vacancies within their departments. 9.3 Manage their careers as well as those of their subordinates; 9.4 Do Performance Management and Appraisal for themselves as well as for their subordinates. 9.5 Have a working/basic knowledge of Labour Relations and Health and Safety Issues that affect them within their working settings. 9.6 Understand the impact of emerging Human Resource Practices on Organisations locally and globally. 10. INSTRUCTIONAL STYLE AND METHODOLOGY The aim of this course is to apply practice-oriented lecturing to enable the student to apply the knowledge in the work environment. The instructional style consists of: 10.1 Lectures 10.2 Individual Assignments 10.3 Group Assignments 10.4 Group Discussions 10.5 Case Studies 10.6 Class Presentations 10.7 Test(s) 10.8 Examination Emphasis is placed on the practical application of theory. Students must consistently attempt to reach a high level of independent study. Study units must be prepared in advance of lectures and in accordance with the course content and course programme. Students must further enhance their learning experience by doing extra reading from the list of recommended reading as well as from other human resources management literature. 4

7 15. ASSIGNMENTS 15.1 Individual Assignment Find a separate document for the assignment. Note that the submission date for the individual assignment is the 04th th of September Group Assignment Find the assignment as a separate document. Also take note of the submission date. Kindly note that the group assignment should be submitted as a Word document and will be presented in class as well. Nice PP presentations would be appreciated. PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the student and not TGSL to hand in typed assignments either to me, the lecturer, or the secretary (Mrs Daphney Lebea). (TGSL will not forward any assignments to lecturers on the student s behalf! Please do not assignments without prior arrangement!!!). Please find attached the template that we use to mark Individual Assignments (Appendix A) and (Appendix B) for Group Assignments. Kindly take note of the main headings and technical requirements that have to be adhered to as specified in the mark sheet. Pay special attention to references and quotes used in your assignments. THE HARVARD method of referencing should be used for all management science subjects. Furthermore, make sure that your references and quotes are technically correct. 16.
