TOP 10 Strategies to Transform Volunteers into Donors

1. Collaborate Internally Create collaboration between the Volunteer department and the Development department. Meet regularly to discuss the organization s fundraising plan and develop a strategy to coordinate solicitations to volunteers.
"This cause helps folks who aren't able to afford a home have a place to call their own. The company and all of us as individuals really believe in that mission. The other part of it is that it's just fun. We're able to get out of the office and work together swinging hammers, which is very different from sitting in front of a computer. - CFO of Silicon Labs
2. Know Your Volunteers Know your volunteers by collecting important information about their employment status, family circumstances, education, community contacts and where their interests intersect with your organization. Maintain this information in a database shared by both the volunteer and development departments.

3. Orient Volunteers Get volunteers off to a great start by providing an appropriate, engaging volunteer orientation in groups or individually. Let them know their volunteer hours are vital and contributed dollars are essential to fulfilling your mission.
Chat Now How does your affiliate orient volunteers?

4. Support Your Volunteers Your organization has to invest in supporting volunteers. Ask them how you are doing and how the experience can be improved upon. Give them a personal experience and connection to your organization and they will invest their time and money with you.

5. Focus Group Engage your volunteers in focus groups to determine their awareness of your mission and interest in becoming a donor to your organization. Find out how they want to be treated and solicited. Create a leadership committee and/or advisory group to launch a fundraising project aimed at attracting new volunteers/donors.

6. Peer Screening Consider wealth screening or a peer review of your volunteer roster to find potential major donors who are already committed to your cause.

7. Recognize Donor Volunteers Pay special attention to those who both volunteer and give to your organization. There are lots of opportunities, ranging from your website, to volunteer gatherings, to the annual report.
Chat Now How does your affiliate recognize individuals who are both volunteers and donors?

8. Crowdsourced Fundraising Create an opportunity for volunteers to invite their network to support a project they are involved with.
9. Share cost information Share information with your volunteers on the cost of Habitat for Humanity s projects and the sources of income.

10. Ask Them Don t be timid. While honoring their volunteer service, invite volunteers to participate financially.
Chat Now How does your affiliate ask volunteers for donations?
Turning Millennials into Donors Consider Monthly Giving. Be Transparent. Activate Peer-to-Peer Engagement. Utilize HYP.
Questions? We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
