3 The challenges Ever increasing workplace demands and pressure. The most valuable asset is time, (particularly for executive teams) in rapidly changing and competitive industries. Teams feel overloaded, fatigued and are distracted within a world surrounded by digital devices. Need to understand disruptive forces and be able to evolve to anticipate, adapt and respond to change. High performing leadership teams have never been more important. But high performance extends beyond technical and professional capabilities. Increasingly it s about enhancing personal wellbeing, balancing professional life and having a healthy and calm mind. Organisations recognise they have a role to play in supporting and enhancing wellbeing in the work place. It is an organisational imperative to ensure high performance leadership teams stay at the top of their game and build resilience and stamina. Organisations are also recognising that the return on investment in leadership teams personal wellbeing can be exceptional focused on time, energy and attention with improvements in productivity, energy, resilience and strengthened relationships. 3

13 Case Study - CBA Direct Channels (DC) The Set-up: Quentin Boyes attended Andrew May s keynote in Queenstown and decided to engage The Performance Clinic to deliver a Personal Best Program to his leadership team. In 2013, after Personal Best programs were delivered successfully across multiple business lines within CBA the Direct Channels, leaders were excited to roll out a program to their call center's and embed the Personal Best concept at a rest of team level. The Challenge: After running a range of diagnostics, we found that the average call centre employee was fatigued, lacked energy, was not excited about life and had very low resilience and ability to deal with stress. They had unhealthy habits, no recovery or down time, were exposed to high level of stress and pressure which drive the engagement scores down and turn over up. The vision across Direct Channel was for employees to feel in control, energized and inspired so they can be their best at work and at home. The Program: The Performance Clinic worked closely with the DC team to create Keystone Habits program to be rolled out across all call centres (across 1,500 staff) over a period of 12 months. The objective was to create a culture where healthy choices are made as a matter of habit, where health and wellbeing is part of the DC DNA. 3 keystone habits were identified: 1.Be in control to balance work and home life, reduce physical and mental stress and get the skills to think like a high performer 2.Be energised to eat healthy food and move regularly to reduce stress, improve sleep and increase energy and performance 3.Be inspired to thrive not just survive, be your whole self, build better relationship and achieve your personal best 8 to 10 weeks were dedicated to each habit launching and concluding with an assessment phase. Participants went through a range of practical and educational workshops, group challenges, assessments, group activity and mindfulness programs and whole range of internal initiatives. The Results: Keystone Habits was a success and participants were on average 4 years younger and had more energy, boosted their stress threshold by an average of 40% and their Satisfaction with Life Scale improved by 25% 13

14 Case Study - Telstra Legal The Set-up: In September 2012 Andrew May presented a Personal Best keynote to the broader Telstra Legal Group. The keynote content was well received with post presentation feedback demonstrating an appetite within Telstra Legal to change the way the group approached meetings, s and thinking time. The Challenge: Running Personal Best program through the leadership legal team showed that the group was working long hours and that more than a quarter of the week was being lost to unnecessary s, meetings that did not add value and unwanted distractions. The long hours were effecting the groups ability to achieve good work-life integration with the results showing that the group wanted to dedicate more time to activities outside of work such as family, friends, hobbies, passions and community. At the same time the group was failing to make time to balance stress with recovery or look after their health and wellbeing.. The Program: In 2015 The Performance Clinic ran a modified version of Personal Best for Telstra Legal rest of team. Over 4 months Participants went through Performance Assessments, full day Personal Best workshops, 8 week physical activity programs, 8 weeks mindfulness program, a reassessment phase and a celebration day. The Results: Fantastic results were achieved across the team: Participants were on average 5 years younger They reclaimed 16 hours in their week by managing s, distractions and unnecessary meeting Time spent in stress over a 24hrs period has been reduced by 1hr and 15min 14

15 Case Study - IAG CFO The Set-up: The initial Personal best program was created at the request of Nick Hawkins with the direction of creating a Personal Best program that delivers the message looking after ourselves better. Nick Hawkins went through the Performance Assessment and participated in a number of one on one coaching sessions to 'get a feel' for our approach to executive performance. The Challenge: The CFO Leadership Team was described as a high performing team made up of empowered subject matter experts who are not only able to absorb a lot of work but who can also have fun working together. The team work really well in a crisis but could improve the way they work together on a day-to-day basis. On a team level the program helped to reinvigorate the team by building camaraderie and collaboration, particularly around day-today problem solving, and preparing them to lead a healthy and efficient workforce. On a personal level the purpose was to invest in the wellbeing and efficiencies of team members in order to provide them with the capacity to work smarter and reduce their working hours. The Program: A very efficient and strong Team Code came out of the Personal Best Leadership team and in 2015 it was time to embed the new way of working to the rest of the team across the CFO division. Participants went through our signature program including Performance Assessments, Personal Best workshops, Better Week workshops, 8 week programs in Physical Activity and Mindfulness, a reassessment phase and a team celebration event. The Results: Fantastic results were achieved across the team: Participants were on average 4 years younger They reclaimed 10 hours in their week by managing s, distractions and unnecessary meeting Time spent in stress over a 24hrs period has been reduced by 1hr and 12min Stronger camaraderie and team morale 15

16 Performance Clinic Programs Personal Best Our signature workplace program for up to 200 people over 16 weeks to build capacity and help teams function as a high performing team. We focus on four key areas: the way you think, they way you work, the way you balance stress and the way you move and eat. Keystone Habits Our wider workforce program for 200+ people over 6 months which assists individuals and teams to operate at their highest capacity. The program is high tech and light touch with online testing and support complimented by face to face educational workshops that focus on key habits that are specific to an organizational and team culture. Performance Index (PI) An online behaviour change self assessment that provides individuals and groups with key performance data across physiology, recovery, psychology and productivity to enable them to improve their personal capacity and organisational performance. Conference keynotes A range of high energy keynotes and workshops support you to set a new personal best both at work and at home. 16
