1 Southampton Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service Job Description Job Title: STAR Project Worker (Education and Outreach) Organisational level: Managerially and Professionally accountable to: Responsible for: Management Team STAR Co-ordinator Delivery of STAR sessions to schools, colleges and within youth sessions and active participation in project planning and development Grade: Band 5 (point 17 25) Hours : Base: Liaison: As agreed. A working pattern will be decided that meets the needs of the service. SRC do not pay overtime but operate a Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) Policy. SRC premises but with networking and service delivery at multiple intervention sites. To Liaise internally with the CEO, SMT, Service leads, delivery and support staff as appropriate in the planning and delivery of the Star project. To liaise externally with multi-agency partners and other stakeholders, consolidating existing links and forging new relationships. PURPOSE OF JOB Provide STAR Service SRE and PSHE programmes in a variety of flexible formats.to young people, identified community groups and professionals as agreed that develop: Awareness of risk, vulnerability (particularly but not exclusively in relation to sexual and domestic abuse) Skills to develop healthy relationships, negotiate consent and mutuality and resist coercion Awareness of services available to support physical and emotional wellbeing Take a pro-active, innovative and creative approach to developing and maintaining the standards and systems of good practice already established by the project. Promote SRC services to potential service users, referring agencies and the general public and signpost to appropriate support. Be pro-active about engaging diverse, marginalized, particularly vulnerable or hard to reach groups and addressing their particular needs using tailored approaches and resources. The Star Project Outreach Worker will need to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service, to liaise with staff at SRC and to develop partnerships with relevant professionals and agencies within the local community.

2 ROLE DESCRIPTION EDUCATION & OUTREACH WITH YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS 1. As part of the STAR project team, assist in the facilitation and ongoing development of creative and innovative programmes for young people and adults (particularly those most vulnerable) that works towards: Raising awareness among young people and wider communities of domestic and sexual violence, abuse or exploitation and wider sex and relationship issues, increasing awareness of risk and safety both for themselves and in their roles as potential parents. Facilitating the development of emotional wellbeing and skills to negotiate more mutual and noncoercive relationships. Assists in upskilling partner agencies in the above areas, encouraging appropriate referrals and signposting. 2. Act on any safeguarding issues which arise with individuals in accordance with SRC safeguarding policy 3. Keep up to date with current trends and developments (research, guidance, media, social trends etc.) to ensure that session content is current and relevant to the communities we work with. 4. Assist in the delivery of training and/or written publicity and information to identified venues as agreed with the STAR Co-ordinator. 5. Take responsibility on particular projects in consultation with the STAR Co-ordinator or management team. 6. Participate in the consultancy, validation, review and evaluation processes of STAR, to include recording, collating and presenting information as required. This will include: Assisting with the writing up of reports for key stakeholders e.g. funders, management committee etc. When needed assist with the collating of data from a variety of evaluation methodology resources, record in relevant databases and ensure that the information stored is up to date and accessible for use when needed e.g. for funding returns 7. Develop and maintaining strong links with key stakeholders in local community services and vulnerable groups. 8. Provide information about relevant support agencies and encouraging take up services. 9. Ensure that contact with schools, colleges, youth and community services and other appropriate access points is established and maintained and that sufficient negotiation and liaison takes place with staff at STAR intervention sites in order to support appropriate project delivery in line with agreed contracts/service level agreements. ADMINISTRATION AND GENERAL TASKS. 10. Write letters, reports, and references and send s as required. 11. Keep up to date with local and national developments in the field of PSHE and abuse prevention. 12. Share ideas and results with colleagues in order to maintain good communication with the SRC team and to develop professionally through mutual exchange of skills, information and ideas. 13. Attend staff, supervision, networking and committee meetings as required. 14. Any other tasks as reasonably required by the Line Manager, Senior Manager or trustees within the scope of the post.

Safeguarding All staff are required to be conscientious at all times with regard to our safeguarding responsibilities and to show commitment to promoting the welfare of all service users with a particular focus on the safety and wellbeing needs and rights of children and vulnerable adults. Responsibility of role The post holder is expected to comply with all SRC policies, procedures and guidelines and uphold the values of SRC at all times. Employees should be aware of their association with SRC whilst engaging in any online activity, particularly with regard to social media or social networks. Any profile or content accessible to the public should be consistent with how you wish to present yourself to colleagues or clients and should also take into account your role as a representative of the organization and its values. This role should be undertaken within the philosophies and values of the organisation as identified in the SRC Mission statement. The post holder is expected to comply with all SRC policies, procedures and guidelines. This job description seeks to provide an outline of the duties and responsibilities of the post. The job holder may be required to undertake other duties which fall within the grade of the job, in discussion with the manager. It is not a definitive document and may be reviewed in conjunction with the post holder in light of service development.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION: Star Project Worker EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE / ABILITIES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW TESTED A relevant professional qualification e.g. in health, probation, education, social, community or youth work Previous experience in providing education and/or training to other professional and nonprofessional groups. KNOWLEDGE Experience of designing and delivering group work with young people using participatory methods. Experience of maintaining pro-active and collaborative alliances with colleagues, stakeholders and partners and working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Specialist knowledge & application of issues & developments relevant to SRE, PSHE & healthy relationships SKILLS Highly developed interpersonal and engagement skills particularly with vulnerable, challenging & hard to reach young people Well-developed IT skills using MS Office packages; Word, Outlook, Excel & Powerpoint. Skills in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and capacity to implement and utilize appropriately a range of assessment or outcome measures. Highly developed assessment, analysis and judgment skills particularly regarding risk. VALUES / ATTITUDES AND PERSONAL Capacity to remain focused, thoughtful, collaborative and constructive when working within emotionally challenging contexts together with the capacity to remain supportive & appropriately challenging with colleagues in the face of organisational stress.
