2 Apprenticeship Facts Dispelling the Myths Apprenticeships can now be offered to employees of all ages Apprentices can be new or existing employees providing the individual with significant new knowledge, skills and behaviours. Apprenticeship levels span from Level 2 (Intermediate) Level 3 ( Advanced) Level 4 (Higher) Level 5 (Degree) Apprenticeships are for all levels Employers are using Apprenticeship pathways as a route to succession/training planning, workforce development and CPD New apprenticeship standards are employer driven and developed by groups of employers working together in Trailblazer group Ci

3 What is an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are pivotal to strategic workforce planning Apprenticeship ideal for upskilling existing employees Apprenticeships bring new talent, diversity and ideas to the businesses Apprenticeships can help with staff engagement and retention An Apprenticeship combines work with practical off the job training and study Apprenticeships spend 20% of their time on off-the-job-learning They are paid a wage An Apprenticeship is a genuine job An Apprenticeship must last 12 months

4 Ofsted Grade: Good (November 2016) Very satisfied - employers were contacted confirmed they are receiving an exceptional service. Overall, 96% of apprentices remain in employment. 363% contract growth since last inspection (2011) Success rates 80% - 8% over benchmark. Timely success rates 75% - 17% over benchmark. Clear evidence of new skills that are required for the workplace through discussion with a former apprentice (of the year) the newly acquired skills are being used to effect in the workplace to bring about improvements. Therefore, good impact demonstrated.

5 CCP Management Apprenticeship Programme ILM Operational Departmental Manager (Level 5 Diploma) Strategic course for practicing middle/senior managers Develops ability to: Lead, motivate, inspire and drive better results Uses core management techniques to provide practical leadership skills Raises professional profile within organisation Typically months duration All apprentices on completion receives 2 years membership to the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM)

10 Apprenticeship Reforms Public Sector bodies with 250 more employers in England have a target to employ on average at least 2.3% of their staff as new apprenticeship starts over the period of 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2021 The Levy applies to employers with a pay bill over 3 million The Levy will be 0.5% of the pay bill based on total employees earning through PAYE Government will Top Up monthly into employers Digital Account

11 Apprenticeship Funding There are two types of employers who will be benefit from government support towards the cost of their apprenticeships training: 1. Employers who haven t paid the levy and want to purchase apprenticeship training from a provider 2. A levy-paying employer who with insufficient funds in their digital account to pay for the cost of training and assessment they want to purchase Government 90% Employer 10% The government will pay 90% of the costs of training and assessment. The employer will be responsible for paying 10% of the costs.

The Department of Work and Pensions is funding the 7.2 million Health and Care Sector Work Academy which is a new intervention to address a specific local labour and skills shortage in the Health and Care sectors by stimulating progression and improving carers prospects for those in receipt of in- and out-of-work benefits How will it achieve this? By delivering a skilled workforce to help meet the recruitment needs and create clear career progression pathways by delivering sector specific training for those new to the sector, while simultaneously progressing those in the sector through training and apprenticeships. by seeking to influence employer practice around recruitment and staff development to support employee retention What are the benefits? Free week training programmes, codesigned with local employers, offered to be flexible and meet the individual s needs Progression into a relevant and appropriate apprenticeship Wrap around care will be provided through Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), career coaching and mentoring and post employment support while on training and after training for up to 4 months. Bursaries available to remove barriers such as childcare and travel costs Coming in early 2018
