1 Post: Responsible to: Member of: Young People s Digital & Engagement Officer Support Team Manager Young People s Team Significant relationships with: Families Team Communications Fundraising Team Office Team Office Manager Based at: Scope of role: Requirements: CLDF Office, Birmingham National Willing and able to travel nationally is essential Willing to undergo training Willing to be involved in overnight and weekend activities Willing to work flexible hours i.e. early evenings on a regular basis Willing to undergo safeguarding children and vulnerable adults training Clear Enhanced Disclosure CRB / DBS Principal Purpose and Approach The principle objective of this role is to engage with young people aged across the UK as they transition into adulthood. CLDF s vision for the Young People s service is to engage with young people through a variety of digital mediums including, telephone, , social media, skype and messaging apps. The post will also engage with young people through CLDF s unique social media platform HIVE. The role will enable young people to achieve their goals and aspirations, whilst supporting them to navigate any challenges of living with a health condition. The post holder will ensure that the service continues to identify innovative ways so there continues to be equality in reaching young people across the UK, as well as providing face to face engagement at CLDF events and young people s residential projects and occasional activity within a hospital setting. A key aspect of this role will be supporting the development and delivery of projects and services for young people aged Listening and signposting skills are essential, as well as offering information on a wide range of topics that young people may face. The role also includes supporting groups of young volunteers in a variety of arenas, promoting CLDF and all aspects of the charity. Weekend working and travelling nationwide will be required. The role will involve being a front line representative for CLDF, its vision, mission and services, to a broad range of stakeholders. The role will also involve supporting the development and delivery of services to young adults diagnosed in childhood (up to the age of 25) with a liver condition.
2 Main Duties 1. To implement the young people s services within the CLDF business plan in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. 2. To build and maintain relationships with young people nationwide through a variety of technologies including telephone, , social media, text messaging, CLDF s websites and young people s online community platforms. 3. To deliver practical advice and support to young people with a childhood liver condition, siblings and young adults diagnosed in childhood (up to the age of 25) through a range of communication devices, with occasional face to face contact, and actively signpost to external services. 4. To take an active role in the development, utilisation and promotion of resources and activities including leaflets, projects and other digital resources for young people and young adults diagnosed in childhood. 5. To recruit to and deliver projects and off-site activities in order to provide opportunities for young people to meet one another, make friends, have fun and support each other. 6. To help identify new and innovative opportunities to deliver and enhance CLDF s young people s and young adults diagnosed in childhood programmes. 7. To support the dissemination of information about the young people s and family support services and the work of CLDF. 8. To review and analyse data on a regular basis as required. Evaluating and reporting on projects and resources. 9. To encourage stakeholders to be engaged with CLDF and recognise the importance of CLDF s fundraising and communications activity. 10. To identify other areas and agencies for the provision of support for young people and young adults and liaise and signpost accordingly. 11. To work flexibly to meet the needs of young people and young adults and their families. 12. To use CLDF s database to ensure that records and reports are accurate and up-todate and carried out in a timely and orderly fashion. 13. To take part in multi-disciplinary meetings, as necessary. 14. To ensure that all activities comply with current and relevant legislation and follow best practice principles. 15. To maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure proper observance of all CLDF protocols relating to confidentiality, health and safety, risk assessments and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. 16. To assist in the development of protocols and procedures to ensure best practice and consistency. 17. To provide duty cover for the Families Team, as required. 18. To direct, support and supervise volunteers at all levels on delivery of work programmes. 19. To nurture effective relationships with relevant hospital staff and key professionals.

To take an active role in the maintenance and development of relevant pages of CLDF s websites and contribute articles and other information for use on CLDF s websites and in other publications. 21. To work with the fundraising and communications teams to provide opportunities to achieve CLDF s overall objectives. Performance Management Performance will be assessed by means of a formal monthly progress review with the Support Team Manager, annual appraisal and review of performance in group projects and other CLDF activities. Specific areas of measurement will be as follows:- 1. The achievement of young people s services objectives and contribution to the overall objectives of CLDF. 2. The quality, timeliness, effectiveness and impact of the service relative to the job description and the values of CLDF. 3. The strength, maintenance and development of effective relationships with young people, their families, external stakeholders and supporters. 4. The evaluation of stakeholders of services delivered for young people, adults diagnosed in childhood and other user groups. 5. The ability to work within a team and the development of effective and constructive relationships with the team. 6. The quality and timeliness of projects, reports and other work. 7. The ability to relate to CLDF s values and mission. 8. The degree of initiative, general approach and attitude towards the role. Death in service benefit twice annual salary. From 1 st January 2017 CLDF operates an auto enrolment pension scheme for all eligible job holders, as is legally required. The initial contributions are 2% for both the employer and employee, rising on a phased basis determined by the government. The scheme is with Royal London. Notes 1. CLDF defines young people as being between the ages of 11 and 17 and a young adult as being aged 18 to 24 years, although does work flexibly within this age group. 2. CLDF works with and develops services for young people using the four corner stones of youth work ethos - Education, Equality of Opportunity, Empowerment and Participation. 3. The post holder will, at all times, need to be mindful of the delicate working relationship and interface with young people, young adults, families, supporters, medical professionals, specialist liver units and hospital units. 4. CLDF operates with a small work force in which every member of the team is expected to work flexibly in order to contribute to the overall objectives and mission of the charity, thus staff are expected to provide cover for colleagues as directed by line management. 5. The service will be offered and carried out in a manner regardless of ethnicity, gender, social class, ability, religious affiliation and sexual orientation of the service users or other CLDF employees. 6. CLDF reserves the right to alter the content of this job description, after consultation, to reflect changes to the job or services provided, without altering the general character or level of responsibility.

The post holder will be expected to ensure that all services comply with current and relevant legislation, follow the best practice principles as appropriate for the charity and adhere to CLDF s Child Safeguarding Policy. 8. The post holder will be expected to keep up to date with external developments within the sector, identifying innovative opportunities and advise on new approaches. 9. Training, mentoring and coaching will be encouraged. 10. This is a Display Screen Equipment (DSE) user regulated post. November 2017
