1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of Foreman (New position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 40,000 students and 4,000 employees in 90 schools and other sites. The Department of Facility Services requires an Foreman to lead a team of four staff working on electronic maintenance or modernization projects from start to completion. The job coordinates district electronics systems projects, including planning, diagramming, scheduling, on-site inspection, facilitating and coordinating with project participants. The job ensures electronic systems and projects are documented and assists the team with the installation and maintenance of electronic system. Work involves procedures of a technical nature and uses hand tools and various sophisticated test equipment. The incumbent works with minimal supervision or as part of various teams in completing projects and activities. Work is performed within the district/department policies and procedures and is guided by electronic, construction and maintenance standards and principles and those established by the department. Work is completed in compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the district s goals and objectives. This is a full-time (40 hrs. /week), permanent position with an annual salary of $86, as per current AUPE Collective Agreement. Position to commence as soon as possible. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Develop work schedules and crew assignments; inspect work areas to insure job is being completed as agreed; evaluate staff performance; complete time sheets, accident reports, and work orders; train staff in related work assignments; Install, inspect, troubleshoot, service, repair and maintain many different brands of electronic equipment: clock systems, closed circuit TV systems, microprocessors, language labs, projection equipment, security systems, sound systems, telephones, telephone systems and video equipment; Identify problems through on-site inspections and report to supervisor may determine alternatives for corrective action and present recommendations to supervisor for resolution. Qualifications: High School, plus a current valid Journeyman Electronic/Communication trades certificate or a graduate in from a technical institute with indenture as an Apprentice Electronic ; Several years recent related experience with proven troubleshooting techniques and the ability to work with minimal service information; Knowledge of wire and electronic systems installation and repairs acquired through trades related training and experience; Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment when dealing with other trades, school principals, teachers, students, co-workers and the general public; Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills is mandatory; A valid Class 5 driver s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton; Ability to provide a clean driver s abstract upon hire and as requested; Possession of a complete set of recognized basic hand tools. The main focus of the job is to lead a team of four staff working on electronic maintenance or modernization projects from start to completion. The job coordinates district electronics systems projects, including planning, diagramming, scheduling, on-site inspection, facilitating and coordinating with project participants. Responsibilities require a qualified journeyman Electronic/Communication trades certificate or a graduate in from a technical institute with indenture as an apprentice electronic technician along with related training and experience. Work is performed within the district/department policies and procedures and is guided by electronic, construction and maintenance standards and principles and those established by the department. Work is completed in compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the district s goals and objectives. There is considerable discretion exercised by the incumbent in the performance of its regular duties. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. For each responsibility, approximately four major activities should be described. List the core responsibilities in ascending order of importance. 1. Project Management Develop work schedules and crew assignments; inspect work areas to insure job is being completed as agreed; evaluate staff performance; complete time sheets, accident reports, and work orders; train staff in related work assignments Participate as a member of a project planning and design team, utilize independent judgement and input from team members Install, inspect, troubleshoot, service, repair and maintain many different brands of electronic equipment: clock systems, closed circuit TV systems, microprocessors, language labs, projection equipment, security systems, sound systems, telephones, telephone systems and video equipment Determine where repairs are required and the most efficient method to complete the work April

3 Handle inventory control including purchasing, receiving, shipping and categorizing supplies, materials and equipment Assist department staff with a variety of projects and provide cover-off during absences 2. Maintenance and repairs Develop preventive maintenance program and assess existing electronic system for modernization Identify problems through on-site inspections and report to supervisor may determine alternatives for corrective action and present recommendations to supervisor for resolution Assist in the cleanup of worksites Ensure tools and equipment are operating properly and report those that are not Ensure worksites are clean and maintained within safety standards 3. Building security Ensure materials and tools are safely operated and stored at all times Secure building as required depending on worksite requirements JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES and SKILLS: Provide a list of the most important knowledge factors, skills and abilities including knowledge about practical procedures, specialized techniques, etc.; analytical and conceptual skills and abilities; and skills needed for direct interaction with others, not only diplomas and degrees. Specific training if it is an occupational certification/registration required for the job. 4 Physically able to complete the duties of the Job using appropriate tools and techniques (constantly lifting up to 30Kg/66lbs) Strong time management skills with the ability to schedule, plan task priorities and manage several projects with conflicting demands Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills is mandatory A valid Class 5 driver s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton Ability to provide a clean driver s abstract upon hire and as requested Possession of a complete set of recognized basic hand tools SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Describe the direction the job receives to perform the work and the type of review completed by the supervisor both during and upon completion of the task. Include the policies, procedures, regulations, and protocols, practices that guide and govern the work. The job is one of two Electronic Foreman expected to work with independence after receiving direction from the supervisor. Work is reviewed on completion to ensure the objectives and work standards have been met. Instructions on new tasks will be received from the supervisor. Work is performed within the district/department policies and procedures and is guided by electronic, construction and maintenance standards and principles and those established by the department. Work is completed in compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the district s goals and objectives.
