3 General Information BSB30115 Certificate III in Business reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context using some discretion, judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may also provide advice and support to a team. Job Roles Customer service officer Clerical officer Data entry operator Payroll officer Word processing officer Filing clerk Your study will develop an understanding of the principles and practices of business operations within organisations, including use of computer applications in a business context and developing a range of business skills. If you consider you have minimum workplace skill, knowledge or experience, this is a great way to gain employable business and office skills that could lead to employment or a traineeship. It is also an ideal program for anyone to gain up-to-date office skills to assist them to re-enter the workforce or continue to further study. If you have no previous skills and knowledge in a business context, it is recommended that you commence with BSB20115 Certificate II in Business. What is expected of a Certificate III learner? At this level, you should be able to: Demonstrate some theory and practical skills in a range of areas Take responsibility for your study and meeting designated timelines, including completion of work outside of designated class time. Please note: You will have to complete work outside of class time. Apply solutions to a variety of predictable problems Perform a range of tasks using some discretion and your own judgment Interpret available information, using discretion and judgment Take responsibility for your own outputs in work and learning Take limited responsibility for the output of others if team activities are involved ntry requirements The following are underpinning requirements to be successful in your study in Certificate III in Business: Basic literacy, language (reading) and numeracy ability Basic business skills and knowledge Competence in basic computer usage, including the keyboard, as well as using the internet Access to a computer running standard business software and reliable internet connectivity A Suitability Assessment will be undertaken by participants to ensure each person has the basic skills required to succeed in this course. If you need to improve these skills, we will recommend suitable training to undertake prior to commencing this certificate. Pathways into the Qualification Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification may include BSB20115 Certificate II in Business, other relevant business study or a related employment history. 4 Pathways from the Qualification BSB40215 Certificate IV in Business, or a range of other Certificate IV Qualifications. Course duration ither part-time or full-time enrolment is available your study must be completed within the required timeline. Class based enrolment If you have enrolled to study in class, you will be expected to attend the classes for the units you have enrolled in, as per the class timetable. Attendance at classes will help you stay on track with your learning and complete assessments in a timely manner. The teacher will be available to assist you in your learning. If you are unable to attend class because of illness or other unavoidable issues, please notify the teacher by or phone to discuss your study. Competency based training Certificate III in Business is offered under the Business Services Training Package and is competency based that is; - the ability to perform something to an agreed standard. Learning and assessment involves completion of activities, assignments and knowledge activities. To further enhance your skill level you should consider accessing voluntary work placement opportunities - talk with your teacher for more ideas on this. nrolment The enrolment process with TasTAF requires the completion of several forms. This includes: o Student Details Form o o Course Selection Form A career pathway plan and training subsidy form. You are also required to provide proof of identity and evidence of concession if applicable. The enrolment process will also include participating in a Literacy, Language (reading) & Numeracy Skill Indicator Assessment. This requirement is designed to ensure you are provided with the most appropriate study and learning pathway to achieve your qualification goals. To enrol with TasTAF, you must have a USI (the Australian Government requires all students to hold a unique student identifier (USI) - visit to create your USI. Once enrolled, you will be provided with a Username, Password and relevant information allowing you to access course work. This process can take up to 48 hours. 5 nrolment Costs and Concessions applying in 2018 There are various levels of fees generally applying to students wishing to enrol. ntitled Fee Rate A student eligible for the ntitled fee rate must satisfy certain conditions: o An Australian or New Zealand citizen; or o A permanent resident of Australia; or o Hold a state sponsored visa on a pathway to permanent residence; and o Must reside or work in Tasmania; and o Be of working age (16-65) o Has not completed a Certificate III or higher qualification in the past five years Concession Students may be eligible for a concession if: o They are receiving a Centrelink allowance such as Newstart, Youth Allowance, Disability Support Pension, a Pension, Austudy or Abstudy o They are listed on a current Centrelink Card as a dependant A concession requires the student, or parent with a dependant student, to present one of the following: Pensioner Concession Card; (Includes PPS, CAR notation); Veterans Affairs Concession Card; vidence verifying receipt of either Austudy/Abstudy or Youth Allowance Health Care Card. Important information in relation to fees: Concession does not apply to or include Learning Resource Fees. Upfront payment can be made by FTPOS, credit card, cash or cheque. Alternative payment options by Instalment Plans can also be accessed. Sponsorship may be applicable for fee payment through agreement with a relevant sponsor, such as a Job Network Agency or employer. If you withdraw from the course prior to completing a unit or undertaking 20% or more of the course (the advised Census date), you may be eligible for a refund of the fees. 6 Withdrawal Process: There is a withdrawal period which is clearly printed on the student Confirmation of nrolment Form issued following completion of enrolment. If the student wishes to withdraw within this period, the student must initiate the withdrawal process with a teacher. The preferred method is through advising the teacher they wish to withdraw from the Course. However, if the request is made after the withdrawal date or following successful completion of a unit within this period, the student may still initiate a withdrawal from the course, but will be required to pay the associated enrolment fee. When a student has not participated for a period of 6 weeks without any contact, the teacher will then record a withdrawal. Recognition of Prior Learning If you have skills and experience to meet all the competencies of any units and can demonstrate/document that competency, then you may apply for recognition of prior learning. Please talk to the enrolling teacher for more information. On Campus Study/Off Campus Study Learning support is provided throughout this course, as per the timetable for the class based enrolment. A teacher/facilitator is available to assist you reaching your learning goals. You are expected to show some independence in your learning. Your teacher is available to provide advice, but ultimately you are the one who needs to make time to complete your goals and this will require additional study outside of the designated class times. Your study will have agreed deadlines for completion of tasks and it is your responsibility to ensure you meet these deadlines. Learning Resources To complete this qualification, you must have access to: a computer, a personal address an internet connection and have Microsoft Office installed. If you are studying on-campus, these resources are provided for you. If you chose to study off-campus, it is your responsibility to provide or find access to these resources. Catapult elearning access provides an online learning and assessment model following commencement of your study, you will receive a username and password. Watsonia Resources are used for the computing units the learning and assessment resources are accessed through the TasTAF online learning platform, Canvas. It is also important to regularly check the Canvas platform for information provided from your teacher. 7 Work Presentation Consider how you should present work to meet workplace standards. This means that work is to be word-processed, proof-read and formatted in a professional manner. Work involving the completion of forms and/or including calculations should be accurate and completed according to instructions. Consider the grammatical structure of sentences and paragraphs. Literacy and numeracy support is available at TasTAF regional campuses and may also be available through LINC services in your area if you chose to study off-campus. Assessment information Assessment will be included within the course, but may require some additional work to meet the evidence requirements of the unit. For example, a voluntary work placement will provide evidence of you applying business skills in a workplace context. You will be provided with Assessment feedback, which may identify: Corrections required to demonstrate competency or any missing work Re-assessment requirements (if any) you are provided with 3 attempts at assessment tasks Your final result Recommendations for future action (if relevant) You will also be able to check your feedback with the teacher throughout your course. Units of Competency BSB30115 Certificate III in Business requires completion of twelve (12) units of competency. You need to successfully complete one (1) Core Unit, a minimum of seven (7) Specified lective Units and an additional four (4) lective Units. The units below have been structured to meet the requirements of the qualification and to provide a broad range of skills and knowledge to support employment opportunities. If you wish to have units recognized which you have completed through prior study, please talk with the Teacher/Facilitator at enrolment. 9 Unit Descriptors BSBWHS302 Apply knowledge of WHS legislation in the workplace This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and comply with work health and safety (WHS) Acts, regulations and codes of practice in the workplace. This unit applies to individuals who contribute to actions to achieve compliance with WHS legislation as part of their WHS responsibilities, which are in addition to their main duties. This unit applies to individuals who exercise discretion and judgement and apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. It covers sensitive responses to, and interactions with, all manner of diversity that might be encountered during the course of work. It applies to individuals who work in a variety of contexts where they will be expected to interact with a diverse client and/or co-worker population. They may also provide some leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others. It applies to individuals who possess fundamental skills in computer operations and keyboarding, and basic skills in operation of word processing software. They may work as individuals who provide administrative support within an enterprise, or may be technical/knowledge experts responsible for production of their own word processed documents. It applies to individuals who perform a range of routine tasks in the workplace using a limited range of practical skills and fundamental knowledge of creating spreadsheets in a defined context under direct supervision or with limited individual responsibility. It includes selecting and using a range of functions on a variety of computer applications. It applies to individuals who possess fundamental skills in computer operations and keyboarding. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate theoretical knowledge of document design and production to provide technical advice and support to a team.
