2 CAREER OPPORTUNITY ICBL invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of: POSITION: DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: Accountant - General Finance AVP Finance & Operations PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Responsible for the preparation, analysis and submission of annual, quarterly or as needed general insurance reports, general ledger reporting, statutory filings, balancing and any other relevant financial reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: STRATEGIC: Reporting (Internal & Regulatory) Financial Analysis Internal Controls Budgeting & Forecasting Asset Management Risk Management Staff Deployment, performance management and development Complies with the policies, standards and regulations of the Barbados Government, the Financial Services Commission and the Barbados Stock Exchange for all reporting requirements and tax filings Issues timely and complete financial statements and life insurance reports for review by the CFO Manages all financial operations of the company to minimise costs and risk and maximise revenues Manages, orients and coaches Finance operational staff to maximise performance Leverages technology to improve financial operations OPERATIONAL /TACTICAL: Coordinates the preparation of the corporate annual report for review by the CFO and AVP Finance & Operations developing and sourcing relevant content Page 2 of 5
3 from all contributors and managing the production process from start to publication Manages various departmental accounts, including life insurance policies, accounts receivables, accounts payables, and claims Leads the Accounting Assistants on day-to-day matters and the following key activities: Ensures that accounts payable are paid and accounts receivables are collected within established timeframes Ensures that periodic bank reconciliations are completed by appropriate personnel or procedures Ensures that required debt payments are made on a timely basis Responsible for performing and overseeing quarterly, semi-annual, annual, or on a as-needed basis audits on departmental policies Performing basic financial analysis in all departmental related areas, including investment opportunities, or any other insurance related initiative Manages the documented system of accounting policies and procedures according to established standards Reports to the company s leadership, Board and Group on various life insurance accounts [on a monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc basis] Manages the production of the annual budget and forecasts Calculates variances from the budget and report significant issues to management Develops a system of management cost reports Implements and monitors staff performance measures and developmental initiatives Supports the CFO, AVP Finance and Executive Leadership team in any other areas assigned, which are of strategic or tactical importance to the company EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATION/ KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a recognised post-graduate degree in the field of Accounts, Finance or a related discipline Completion of a professional accounting designation (CGA, ACCA, or similar designation) Page 3 of 5
4 Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance and/or Professional Diploma in Insurance would be an asset A minimum of six (6) years working in an accounting and/or finance environment at a senior level, with a key responsibility for producing financial statements Previous experience in an insurance environment would be an asset CORE COMPETENCIES TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: Possesses in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of general accounting principles, practices and procedures Possesses excellent knowledge of IFRS Is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite able to perform complex calculations in Excel and produce high quality documents and presentations for external stakeholders Is able to analyse and report on financial data to support strategic decision-making Is able to use [or learn to use] different financial software platforms to input and extract useful financial data LEADERSHIP, PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND CULTURE MANAGEMENT: Collaborates with internal departments to design focused work plans and delegates activities accordingly to achieve company and departmental goals Defines expectations, then empowers coaches, rewards and disciplines staff effectively to maintain performance and encourage a positive company culture TEAM BUILDING & EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT: Understands how to motivate staff with a diversity of values, opinions, experiences and goals Builds a cooperative and effective work group by sharing information willingly and interacting effectively across departments Page 4 of 5
