Fixed term, 6 months Purpose of the Post Working to the Director of Corporate ngagement and the CO of Imperial Consultants, you will hold responsibility for building and delivering a new dynamic, stimulating and professional pilot programme for Imperial College focusing on Small to Medium-size nterprises (SMs) engagement. In this fast paced and innovation-centric role, you will design, establish, manage and wrap up the programme, whilst delivering change and continuous improvement to the shape and structure of the programme, in line with partner SM needs and Imperial s priorities. As part of this, you will develop and provide a series of events, liaison projects and communications. Your responsibilities will include: leading on the external and internal liaisons necessary in retaining the commitment, goodwill, and high regard of local business leaders seeking and following up opportunities for SMs to work with College managing and delivering the development, lead up and follow up to SM events, including determining content and speakers; and devising and producing briefing information and communications for the SM community managing or overseeing as needed, all operations and logistics in the coordination of the programme, including finance, the production of events and communications, and the commission and management of subcontractors. managing and coordinating other services for SMs, such as training programmes and collaborative projects, in conjunction with other Imperial teams, providing value to the SM partner organisations through knowledge exchange. You will also work closely with the Director nterprise, VP (Innovation), and the IBP Programme Manager as well as other members of the nterprise team, and interface frequently with senior members of the academic community and senior executives from global external corporate organisations, meaning that high levels of professionalism, interpersonal skills and a strong delivery focus are essential prerequisites. An ability to work independently and 1

2 efficiently and a proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement and independent problem-solving are also indispensable. Relevant examples of outputs of the Corporate ngagement team, through its IBP programme in particular, can be seen at the IBP website and the IBP YouTube channel KY DUTIS AND RSPONSIBILITIS: Management Set up and manage the operational delivery of a new SM pilot programme, and supervise (as required) internal and external resources engaged in its successful delivery, setting goals which align with the broader objectives of the programme Develop and produce new events, services and corresponding communications materials for SMs, or where external suppliers are involved, manage such supplier interactions. Planning and Organising Lead proposition building for the creative SM engagement programme and content to ensure high membership excitement and attendance, in line with strategic objectives of Imperial Lead and drive the successful establishment and running of the SM engagement programme, achieving (to be defined) metrics on engagement scale, value and outcomes, using excellent planning, organising and continuous improvement skills Drive, track and manage SM engagement pipeline through to formalised engagement with a range of SMs in the West London area Project manage teams of subcontractors to deliver IBP SM events and services Identify opportunities to develop the SM programme through changes to its structure, shape and value proposition to corporate members, and deliver changes agreed with senior College leadership. Liaison and Influence Build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders including external suppliers and relevant business units throughout the College, with a particular focus on close coordination with Imperial Business Partners Facilitate online communications, social media and marketing. Finance and Resource Management Maintain overall budget discipline, preparing income and expenditure forecasts for the IBP SM Pilot Manage all sub-contracted service providers (internal and external), specifying task requirements, selecting providers, following appropriate procurement procedures and ensuring delivery in line with expectations Support Director IBP with resource and budget planning for the programme through provision of financial information and projections Deliver fair value for money for IBP members, spending subscriptions efficiently, effectively and economically to ensure maximum benefits. Analysis and Reporting Analyse results of an Imperial commissioned survey of the target SM market and provide recommendations for propositions, service offerings and engagement models to help shape the SM engagement programme Review IBP programme with members and seek feedback in order to improve and develop the IBP offer, keeping abreast of current issues of interest to corporate partners Report to the Director IBP and support the reporting of IBP activity and achievements to the College leadership team, Internal Advisory Board, VP (Development and Innovation), and Head and Director of Corporate Partnerships valuate how SM Programme can best complement other relationship management and business development activities at the College such as the Key Corporate Partners programme, xecutive ducation, consultancy, 2

3 Departmental and Institute advisory boards, research consortia, and individual relationships of academics Identify unique selling propositions which make the SM Programme attract to businesses to ensure maximum engagement from the companies Use project management tools (Wrike in particular) to manage high quality delivery of events and services. Customer Service Take exceptional care of relevant departmental academics to build an engaged College community supporting SM interactions, complementary to any academic-departmental-member relations Draw out in depth feedback from SMs and monitor their satisfaction, and respond quickly with original ideas and innovative solutions. Continuous Improvement The post holder will work closely with the Director of Corporate ngagement and the CO of Imperial Consultants in identifying and delivering the priority programme for continuous improvement. Note: The SM engagement programme is a new activity at Imperial College London and therefore offers many opportunities for review and continuous improvement. 3

Relationship Management and / or Business Support/Development experience Designing, planning and delivering events and professional services for businesses from scratch Relevant commercial and / or higher education experience Marketing and Communications experience Knowledge A demonstrable interest in science and technology Working knowledge of CRM tools and project management tools, e.g. Salesforce, Wrike Working knowledge of producing online marketing material D D Skills & Abilities Strong relationship building skills with the ability to interact at senior level in the College and externally in a manner that builds trust and confidence in the persona and the SM engagement programme Solid delivery focus, with the ability to manage multiple projects through to completion through welldeveloped organisation, coordination and facilitation skills The ability to prioritise a very busy and often lumpy workload of parallel activities and a strong deadline focus Self-direction an able to work with minimum supervision in a large complex, matrix environment as a one person team Successful at working in an informal team environment, with the ability to create and work within a structure where needed Strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally, that ensure clear and effective contact at all levels in both academia and industry, as typified by the ability to produce high quality communications with significant science, education and research content for a corporate audience, and produce briefings and executive summaries that are suitable for both academics and senior managers in industry Proactive and self-directed able to work with supervision within a defined remit whilst maintaining appropriate upward and lateral communication. 4

5 Outstanding interpersonal skills including charisma, gravitas and credibility with academic and corporate stakeholders, empathy and an understanding of how to meet complex stakeholder needs and build sustainable relationships both within and external to the College xcellent listening skills, with the ability to draw out in depth feedback from current and prospective IBP members, monitor their satisfaction, and relay detailed intelligence from remote client interactions to interested parties at Imperial An understanding of the academic environment, preferably gained through previous experience of working in an HI An understanding of the commercial world, preferably gained through previous experience of working with SMs Creative thinking, especially in the context of identifying compelling subject areas and event formats to maintain an exciting IBP programme and identifying activities and processes that can improve events and enhance relationships Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to members needs and requests. Ability and willingness to work outside of normal working hours (occasional evenings) as required.
