MODERN SLAVERY ACT STATEMENT 2016
SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING STATEMENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 54 OF THE MODERN SLAVERY ACT 2015 FOR SERVEST GROUP LIMITED Introduction from Rob Legge, Chief Executive Officer UK & Europe We are committed to ensuring that there is no human trafficking or modern slavery in any part of our business or in our supply chain. It is important to us that people working in our business and for our suppliers work in safe, fair and legal conditions, and we will continue to make every effort to ensure that we act ethically and with integrity in all of our business relationships. Servest Group Structure Servest Group Limited is a provider of facilities management services across various sectors. We are part of the global Servest Group which was founded in South Africa. Whilst we and our subsidiaries (the UK Group ) operate primarily in the United Kingdom, we do also operate in the Republic of Ireland. The UK Group has over 20,000 people working across approximately 7,000 sites in the United Kingdom. The UK Group has an annual turnover of over 500,000,000 Our Business We are experts in facilities management and creating environments that enable people to deliver exceptional experiences, helping organisations to be more efficient, effective and sustainable. We operate across a diverse range of sectors including: construction; distribution; transport and logistics; education; healthcare; hotels; leisure and tourism; manufacturing; media; professional services; public sector; retail and utilities. We deliver a comprehensive portfolio of services from building services (which includes mechanical and electrical maintenance and fabric maintenance) to energy and compliance solutions, catering, security, cleaning, landscaping, grounds maintenance and waste management and washrooms, allowing our clients to focus on their core business. Our Supply Chains Our supply chains include a network of over 1,800 vendors based in the United Kingdom. Whilst all of our suppliers are based in the United Kingdom we recognise the depth and complexity of supply that extends beyond our immediate suppliers, meaning that the chain is likely to have a global reach. Page 1 of 4
In particular, whilst the coffee beans sourced for our coffee brand, Groundhouse, are supplied to us through a supplier based in the United Kingdom, the supply network traces back to plantations outside the United Kingdom. For further information about Groundhouse see Due Diligence Processes for Slavery and Human Trafficking As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk, we are developing our current systems to ensure that we can: Identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chains. Mitigate the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our supply chains. Monitor potential risk areas in our supply chains. Protect whistle blowers. We have dedicated resource specifically for the purpose of supplier relationship management ( SRM ). Part of the SRM remit is to analyse at prequalification stage potential suppliers and subcontractors for compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and to assess their working practices and policies in relation to freely chosen employment (no forced, bonded, involuntary, or prison labour), child labour avoidance, working hours, wages and benefits (legal wages and overtime pay), humane treatment (no abuse, coercion, sexual harassment or political orientation) and freedom of association. Suppliers and subcontractors are requested to confirm compliance with standards we deem acceptable in relation to these matters both for their own business and for those in their supply chains. Suppliers and subcontractors who enter our supply chain will be required to either comply with our Ethical Procurement Policy or demonstrate that they have their own policies and/or codes of conduct which incorporate similar standards to those embodied in our code. Supplier Adherence to Our Ethics To ensure all those in our supply chain and contractors comply with our ethics we have in place a supply chain compliance programme. Suppliers and subcontractors are required to allow us to assess their compliance with the expectations and standards detailed in our Ethical Procurement Policy. We have a dedicated compliance team, which consists of representatives from the following departments: Legal Risk and Compliance. Human Resources. Procurement. Page 2 of 4
Sales Marketing Business Development The compliance team meet regularly to review our obligations and our compliance with the same. Our Policies on Slavery and Human Trafficking We have implemented the following policies and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our business, including our supply chains. CSR Policy Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy Ethical Procurement Policy Recruitment Policy Grievance and Whistle-Blowing Policies Training Policy All reports of breaches or non-compliance with our policies are taken seriously and are fully investigated. Where appropriate, we always seek to take remedial action. Training and Behaviours To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to our staff. Basic training is given to all new starters, and HR Workshops are devised to give specialist and tailored training to persons working in different areas of the business. Our ethos of continuous conversations gives regular opportunity for employees to discuss training needs and for managers to identify and address any areas of concern. Each member of our Strategic Procurement team has passed the Ethical Procurement and Supply exam with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, which requires candidates to show a comprehensive understanding of the need to eradicate (and methods of eradicating) unethical behaviours, bribery, corruption and exploitation from an organisation s business and supply chain. New team members will sit the same exam to ensure that knowledge and training is kept to a consistently high standard. Our Effectiveness in Combating Slavery and Human Trafficking We use key performance indicators relating to the following matters to measure how effective we have been to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any part of our business or supply chains: Page 3 of 4
number of employees trained on slavery and human trafficking issues; the volume of communications throughout the UK Group from or on behalf of the board of directors relating to our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy; and the number of concerns and grievances raised by employees and persons outside our business regarding the detection or reporting of modern slavery in any part of the UK Group or its supply chain. Further Steps Following a review of the effectiveness of the steps we have already taken to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in our business or supply chains, we intend to take the following further steps in our next financial year to combat slavery and human trafficking: we will develop a system to track the number of suppliers evaluated at pre-qualification stage for compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015; we will develop a system to monitor the number of existing suppliers who have been assessed for compliance with our Ethical Procurement Policy and to record the outcome of such assessments; we will map our supply chains in a more comprehensive manner in order to identify, monitor and manage risk, and in doing so will consider the risks associated with particular countries, sectors, products and particularly susceptible transactions. This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 30 September Rob Legge Page 4 of 4
