2 Application Package Application Details Director of Staff Development Overview Sacred Heart College is located in New Town, a central suburb in Hobart, Tasmania, and has an enrolment of over 930 students. Education is co-educational from Kindergarten to Year 10. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Sacred Heart College has a direct link to the Order s founders, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods. Our mission is to live out the educational vision of those two great heroes of Catholic education and we strive to make our motto Sursum Corda (Lift up your Hearts!) the defining message of hope for our students and staff. Sacred Heart College has a reputation for dynamism, educational excellence and outstanding pastoral care. Classes are conducted in modern premises and we ensure that our teaching, our facilities and every aspect of school operation meet the requirements of best practice. Application The College invites applications for the position of Director of Staff Development. The successful applicant will work in close cooperation with the Principal, Deputy Principals and other members of the College s Leadership Team. The Director of Staff Development will be a person of vision with a capacity to lead and inspire others to work in a team to develop the College and the learning opportunities provided to students. Terms and Conditions are in accordance with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement (2015), with an indicative salary of $101,928 (depending upon qualifications and experience). 5 DIRECTOR OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT Role Description September 2016 The Director of Staff Development is a Level 3 Position of Responsibility (Secondary) in accordance with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement, The primary objectives of the Director of Staff Development role at Sacred Heart College, working across all grade levels (K 10) are to: Provide leadership in the implementation of the Teacher Performance and Development Framework. Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of non-teaching staff performance and development. Ensure a supportive environment for staff. Key Responsibilities: The primary responsibility for staff development at Sacred Heart College rests with the Principal and this responsibility is delegated to, and shared with, key staff that have responsibility for staff development. The Director of Staff Development will support other members of the College Leadership Team, and all teaching and non-teaching staff at the College. Responsibilities: Develop and manage the induction and ongoing mentoring programmes for new staff. Develop and implement an assessment system that enables all staff to identify areas for professional and personal development. Assist staff to establish an action plan to support their development. Develop and implement a system by which established development plans can be monitored, reviewed and measured and ensure that development plans are linked to and supported by the whole school Staff Professional Development and Learning Program. 5 P a g e S e p t e m b e r 2016

6 Report regularly to the College Leadership Team on all significant aspects of staff development such as development and learning needs (at individual, department or whole school levels), progression and outcomes. Ensure that significant professional and development needs at department or whole school levels are addressed with input from other school staff such as the Deputy Principals and the Director of Learning and Teaching. Assist teachers to develop an action plan to meet the requirements established by the Teachers Registration Board to move to Full Registration. Develop an effective and meaningful performance review programme for non-teaching staff. Oversee all standards of both teaching and support staff performance. Plan and implement professional learning for all staff. Plan and manage the professional learning budget for all staff. Assist in matters regarding the pastoral care of staff, providing guidance, advice and strategies to deal with any professional issues or differences/challenges. Be prepared to follow through on such matters above or refer them on, where necessary. Committee Membership Be a proactive member of the College Leadership Team contributing to the development, implementation and review of all school policies and procedures. Understand your role and responsibilities as a member of the School s Critical Incident Team. Relevant Capabilities Ability to actively support and model the values of the College. Ability to work and model the College s Code of Conduct including the ability to work safety and with care for the safety of others. Ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of people including students, parents, colleagues and other school community members. Ability to resolve or refer appropriately, problems of a sensitive or complex nature. Ability to continuously seek and embed improvement for self and others. Ability to innovate, value and encourage reflection and new ideas in others. Relevant Qualifications and Experience Appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications. Current Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board registration. Demonstrated experience and understanding of employee development programs within an educational setting. 7 Work, Health and Safety Requirements As a staff member at Sacred Heart College, irrespective of your position, the following expectations (read legal requirements) apply: Take reasonable care for your own safety.
