2 Position Summary Federation University Australia has a bold vision to further internationalise its campuses through increased international engagement activities and by increasing its international student population from diverse source countries. The International Recruitment Officer is responsible for recruiting international students to the University. Utilising a variety of skills, including well developed interpersonal and marketing skills, this role is responsible for generating enrolments from offshore and onshore markets to the University s Australian campuses. The position will also be responsible for developing positive relationships with key stakeholders within the offshore and onshore markets, including education agents, prospective students and other key influencers to recruit international students into a diverse range of Federation University programs and campuses. The International Recruitment Officer will report directly to the Manager, International Student Recruitment. The position will also work closely with internal stakeholders, including senior staff in Schools and Centres, to promote the University s offerings, and to attract international students to the University. This position requires local and international travel with out of hours activities. Ideally, the applicant will be bilingual or multilingual and be aware of the sensitivities of the aspirations of students from developing countries and different cultural, economic and social backgrounds. Key Responsibilities 1. Identify recruitment opportunities both offshore and onshore which will aid growth and diversification in the international student population across the University s programs and campuses. 2. Develop and implement regional recruitment plans that utilise multiple recruitment channels to effectively market the University. 3. Undertake offshore and onshore recruitment activities in specified geographical areas to meet the University s International Recruitment and Enrolment plan. 4. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders involved in the recruitment of international students, including education agents, prospective students, alumni and other key influencers. 5. Conduct professional information sessions on the University to international students and key stakeholders including providing training to education agents. 6. Counsel prospective international students throughout the international student decision making process to encourage them to select and recommend Federation University Australia. 7. Contribute to the development of conversion strategies, including nurturing leads, and engage in proactive conversion actives, including liaising with agents and other stakeholders, to increase conversion rates. 8. Respond to enquiries in a professional and timely fashion. 9. Promote the University s programs and campuses at a variety of promotional opportunities such as offshore and onshore recruitment events, meetings with international visitors and agents. 3 10. Contribute to the development of new processes and procedures related to international student recruitment. 11. Provide offshore and onshore market intelligence and feedback to the Manager, International Student Recruitment, and to other University personnel as required, to assist in the development of Federation University s International Recruitment and Enrolment Strategy. 12. Assist the Manager, International Student Recruitment with a range of tasks as required, including but not limited to: Budget and planning: Internal and external reporting; Stakeholder relationship management. 13. Reflect and embed the University s Principles, Objectives and Strategic Priorities when exercising the responsibilities of this position. Level of Supervision and Responsibility The International Recruitment Officer reports to and works under the general direction of the Manger, International Student Recruitment. The position will be required to travel within Australia and overseas, and on these occasions must be able to work independently with only remote support. The International Recruitment Officer covers a wide range of administrative and recruitment related functions predominantly associated with marketing the University s programs and campuses to prospective students. The position also has a direct role in supporting agents to promote Federation University Australia as a preferred destination for international students. The International Recruitment Officer must have the ability to interpret policies, procedures and guidelines relating to recruitment of international students, and management of other key stakeholders, e.g. agents. The position must also have the ability to interpret requirements of Australian and foreign governments and non-government agencies in relation to recruitment of eligible international students. The International Recruitment Officer has a high degree of autonomy in the day-to-day management of tasks relating to student recruitment activities. The position will be responsible for decisions relating to day to day recruitment priorities in terms of time allocations, and will make recommendations to the Manager, International Student Recruitment regarding allocation of resources and/or recruitment tactics to be implemented. 4 Training and Qualifications Completion of a University degree, with subsequent relevant work experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. An understanding of the international student recruitment market and the role of education agents. Ability to speak a second language is also desirable. Position/Organisational Relationships The International Recruitment Officer reports under general direction to the Manager, International Student Recruitment. The incumbent has broad relationships with: Pro-Vice Chancellor (International and Partnerships) School staff in both the Higher Education and TAFE sectors; Administration staff of the University; Staff in the Centre for University Partnerships; Federation University Australia s International Admissions office; The International Recruitment Officer is required to demonstrate a broad knowledge of and work with key stakeholders such as: Staff of government and non-government agencies in Australia, and source recruitment countries; Embassy and consular staff including Austrade and Victorian Government Education Offices Education agents of the University in Australia and overseas. Key Selection Criteria Applicants must demonstrate they are able to undertake the inherent responsibilities of the position as contained in the position description and are able to meet the following Key Selection Criteria: 1. Completion of a University degree, with subsequent relevant work experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. 2. An understanding of the international student recruitment market and the role of education agents. An ability to speak a second language is also desirable. 3. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. 4. Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships. 5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise competing work demands whilst meeting tight deadlines. 6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including the proven ability to provide information, advice and support to a range of organisational stakeholders. 7. Demonstrated ability to liaise with a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds. 8. Demonstrated commitment to deliver quality service and student focussed outcomes. 9.
