2 Gaining a Qualification from AIM WA Well Worth the Effort The focus of all learning and development at AIM WA is on performance improvement. We don t train for training sake. Our goal is to help you and your organisation get better. For many of our programs, you also have the opportunity to gain recognition for the skills and knowledge you acquire through obtaining a national Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification. Each of the VET qualifications may be obtained via a combination of face-to-face attendance on the programs and an assessment process, or via a separate process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Regardless of the method you choose, we will work closely with you to support and guide you through the process. It won t necessarily be easy, but it will be well worth the effort. You can be confident that if you achieve the qualification from AIM WA you will have progressed through a rigorous assessment and will have demonstrated your competence in the workplace. 3 BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety Qualification Overview This qualification is suitable for people working in a Work Health and Safety (WHS) role who work to provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others. The qualification reflects the role of workers who apply a broad knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of contexts and may include coordinators, advisors and facilitators. Units of Competency This qualification is made of up the following ten (10) units of competency. Duration You have up to two (2) years from enrolling onto the qualification to successfully complete the training and assessment requirements. Actual duration will vary for each individual and will be dependent upon your existing knowledge and skill level and availability to attend the associated training programs throughout the two (2) year time frame. This means you may have the ability to complete the requirements before this time. Stay motivated!! Seven days of face-to-face training plus assessment requirements (out of class) *See Program Information section for overview, duration and dates of each program. After attending the AIM WA training program/s you can expect to invest in continued on-the-job learning of the knowledge and skills gained from the formal learning along with your existing skills and knowledge in conjunction with completing the assessment requirements.

4 Certification requirements After attendance on the face-to-face training and successful completion of the assessment requirements, AIM WA will issue Statements of Attainments after being deemed competent in the units associated with the assessment. Once all units have been successfully completed, AIM WA will issue a testamur and record of records for the qualification. We encourage participants to complete the requirements within three (3) to six (6) months after attending the program/s and implementing the continued learning from the training in their workplace. While not compulsory, AIM WA recommend that participants attend training and complete the associated assessment before completing any additional training. This is maximise retention of information and to capitalise on the motivation resulting from the training. AIM WA offers free monthly assessment workshops to assist you in meeting this target or if you are finding it hard to progress. Bookings can be made via our website at aimwa.com. Note: Participants can apply for RPL or mutual recognition for all or part of the units that make up the qualification. 5 Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Where possible, we will make every attempt to identify any specific training needs based on the English language, literacy and numeracy competencies, which are needed to participate effectively in our training programs. Included in this enrolment kit is an LLN questionnaire. Please answer all questions honestly as it is important for AIM WA to establish if any educational or support needs are required in order for you to complete the requirements of the qualification. If any are identified, AIM WA may be able to incorporate reasonable adjustment or support services providing they do not cause any unjustifiable hardship to the organisation or harm to learners. 6 Instructions Self-Assessment Questionnaire In the self-assessment questionnaire please read the application description for each unit of competency (UoC) on the following pages to determine whether you are currently completing/or have the opportunity to complete the tasks outlined within your current role. You will also require the support of your line manager. As you read through each application description, tick the relevant (Often, Sometimes, Never) box in the Do you complete these tasks column with the frequency in which you apply this standard in your workplace. This will indicate your capacity to gather quality evidence for the BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. For full unit details please visit training.gov.au or if you need any assistance in clarifying any part of the application description of a unit, please contact Assessment Services by either ing assessments@aimwa.com or by phoning (08) who can direct your query to one of our qualified Assessors or Learning and Development Specialists. If you already hold a listed unit, please check the box as we may be able to provide you with mutual recognition towards the qualification. Once you have decided whether you meet the requirements, it is important to review each one with your direct line manager and have them sign the attached sign-off form agreeing to support you in the gathering of quality evidence for assessment purposes. You also have the choice of completing a LLN assessment prior to attending any programs if the questionnaire identifies any potential issues arising from the questionnaire.

BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes (Core) Do you contribute to setting up, running and improving work health and safety (WHS) consultation and participation processes that are prescribed in legislation? This includes identifying individuals and parties involved in WHS consultation and participation processes as well as contributing to WHS consultation and participation processes. This would also include contributing to processes for communicating and sharing WHS information and data, identifying and meeting training requirements for effective WHS consultation and participation and improving WHS consultation and participation processes It also covers contributing to communicating relevant information identifying and delivering related training and improving the consultation and participation processes. BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control

BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems (Core) Do you contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a work health and safety management system (WHSMS) as it applies to own work area and job role? This would include contributing to the development and promotion of WHS policies, WHSMS planning, implementing the WHSMS plan, WHS performance and reviewing and improving the WHSMS. This unit requires an understanding of the relevant Acts, regulations, codes of practice, standards and guidelines. BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents (Core) Do you assist with actions and activities performed in response to work health and safety (WHS) incidents which includes accidents? This would include assisting with identifying legislative and other requirements. Assisting with implementing initial incident response procedures, collecting WHS information and data relevant to an investigation, incident investigations and implementing recommended measures and actions arising from investigations. This unit requires those who work under supervision to use some discretion and judgement to respond to incidents within their level of responsibility. BSBPMG522 Undertake project work (Elective) Do you undertake straightforward projects or sections of a larger project? This would include developing a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learned for application to future projects. This unit requires having the responsibility of meeting project timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.

This would include assisting with identifying existing contractor WHS arrangements and evaluating contractor WHS arrangements and making improvements as required The WHS management of contractors has a strong focus on compliance with WHS organisational and legislative requirements. This unit requires those who either work in organisations that are supplied with services by contractors or work in organisations that supply such services. It is only concerned with the supply of onsite services to workplaces. It does not cover outworkers or contractors who supply goods, materials or products to workplaces. BSBWHS410 Contribute to work-related health and safety measures and initiatives (Elective) Do you manage the identification, review, development, implementation and evaluation of effective participation and consultation processes as an integral part of managing work health and safety (WHS). This would include contributing to scoping and establishing workrelated health and safety measures and initiatives and ensuring they comply with legislative requirements and obligations. It also includes reviewing and evaluating the work-related health and safety measures and initiatives. The unit requires those to have a responsibility for enabling people to be consulted about, and to participate in, WHS management and decision making across the organisation. In addition, it also requires having a substantial knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts. BSBMGT401 Show leadership in the workplace (Elective) Do you lead teams and individuals by modelling high standards of conduct to reflect the organisation's standards and values? This would include enhancing the organisation s image and making informed decisions. This unit is suitable to those transitioning into a leadership role and taking on the responsibility for the work and performance of others. They will have a strong influence on the work culture, values and ethics of the teams they supervise.

For the units you have ticked Never for, while benefiting from attending the AIM WA training program/s, you will also need support from your organisation to provide you with the opportunity to continue to build on these new skills and knowledge gained from the training program before commencing the assessment requirements. For the units you have ticked Sometimes for you have the option to either attend AIM WA program/s training to build on your already existing skills and knowledge and complete workplace activities to fully absorb the requirements of the unit. Alternatively, you may be able to meet the requirements of RPL with additional support from your organisation. You should discuss these options with your manager. However please also ensure that you have not overplayed your strength for these units as this may negatively impact on your ability to provide quality evidence when demonstrating your competency. 16 Enrolling onto the qualification ensures that you are kept up to date with any changes to the qualification. It also allows us to provide additional support where possible and help keep you motivated and on track. Please provide the following documents to prior to attending any programs. Application form Self-assessment questionnaire (including managers sign-off) LLN questionnaire RPL/MR application (if applicable) Program information Upon enrolling onto the qualification, you have two (2) years to complete all necessary training and assessment requirements. To best meet the needs of participants and the industry, training programs are only valid for two (2) years. This is to ensure you have obtained the skills and knowledge the most closely represents the industry you re enrolling into. If you have not completed the assessment requirements after this time, please contact Assessment Services on (08) to discuss your options. After enrolling onto the program/s, we will send you an information no later than 2 weeks prior to the commencement date. The will contain details of the program name, dates, time, location, catering and other information to help you prepare for the program. Any pre-work will also be provided in this . Our programs are very interactive with structure activities to allow you to gain the confidence to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the training back into the workplace. You will also have the added benefit of learning from the experience of others in varying industries and sectors. Withdrawal, transfer and refund Program fees are payable within seven (7) days from the date of invoice and should be paid prior to attending any training program. We recognise that plans can change and our objective is to support our clients manage their investment in personal and organisational development. Before any programs begin, we incur substantial administrative costs related to your enrolment and therefore cancellation and transfer fees may apply. 17 Assessment Information After completing the training program/s, you will be provided with an assessment tool in order for you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge learnt while attending the training and experience gained throughout your employment history. Please note that assessment tools are only valid for 3 months after attending the program. If start after this time, you will need to contact Assessment Services to ensure you have the most recent version. Each assessment will have instructions on its requirements. Once you are confident you have met the requirements you can then submit it to Assessment Services who will allocate your submission to one of our qualified Assessors. AIM WA recommends dedicating a minimum of 5 hours per week finalising the assessment requirements for a 2 year completion. Assessment Support For support and assistance in keeping you motivated and on track, AIM WA offers free monthly assessment workshops. These workshops have qualified trainers and assessors available to discuss your progression and clarify any queries you may have about the assessment. Details can be found on our website aimwa.com. Once you are confident that you have met the assessment requirements, submit your evidence for assessing to assessments@aimwa.com. You will receive a notification that we have received your submission and details of who your assessor will be. If not included in the program fee, you will be invoiced the assessment fee upon receipt of your submission. The assessment process usually tasks between 4-6 weeks, however we always endeavour to shorten our turn-around timeframe where possible. Payment is required before any AQF certification documents will be issued.

18 How you will be assessed Your assessor will make their decision based on the following rules of evidence: Validity You need to ensure that you can provide evidence to show that you have the skills, knowledge and attributes to be deemed competent as described in the unit of competency. Sufficiency You need to ensure that the quality, quantity and relevance of the evidence supplied support the demonstration of your competency. Authenticity You need supporting evidence to authenticate that the products and processes you are submitting are indeed your work. Third party letters or references may be requested to support your portfolio. Recent Evidence is Preferred (Currency) The Assessor is looking for currency of competence so use recent projects as evidence. As a rule of thumb, evidence from the last two (2) years is preferable. This should be discussed with the Assessor. Your academic training and qualifications may go back further than two (2) years to demonstrate knowledge of vocational education and training. If further evidence is required Your Assessor will contact you if they require you to submit further information to satisfy the rules of evidence they will guide you as to how you can go about filling the gaps. Unless agreed between you and the Assessor, the additional evidence must be submitted within four (4) weeks - no additional fee will be applied. If your assessor then determines that you are Not Yet Competent, you may choose to re-work your submission and resubmit for assessment. Re-assessment is charged per Unit of Competence, at the standard rate. Request for Extensions Some programs have a specified timeframe in which you need to submit your assessment by. If for any reason, you are unable to meet this timeframe, please contact our Assessment Services Team prior to this date to discuss alternative arrangements. Please note that in the event that the qualification has been superseded, we may not be able to grant any extensions. This is beyond the control of AIM WA. Ownership and plagiarism It is a requirement that any submission is your own and contains no material written by another person except where due reference is made. A false declaration may lead to the withdrawal of a qualification and fees forfeited. Mutual Recognition Should you have a statement of attainment or record of results from another nationally recognised qualification, a copy of your statement of attainment/record of results may be forwarded to the Assessment Services Team via at assessments@aimwa.com and where possible and within the packaging rules of the qualification, mutual recognition may be granted. Verification with the issuing RTO will be necessary before any recognition is given. Appeals If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your assessment, you have a right of appeal. Before deciding whether to appeal an assessment decision, carefully review the reasons for the original decision. 1. Seek further clarification if you do not understand the stated reasons ask the Assessor to explain their decision in more detail and discuss the areas they feel required more attention or more evidence 2. If you are still not satisfied after hearing the Assessor s explanation then your appeal should be made in writing to the Manager, Assessment Services within 10 working days of receipt of the original assessment decision. Any appeal against an assessment decision will be managed in strict confidence.
