Our sustainability commitment
History and Background At Fairmont, we re committed to making a difference in the communities where our guests and colleagues live, work and play. More than 20 years ago, we pioneered our comprehensive Green Partnership Program, through which we ve worked diligently to minimize the impact our properties have on the planet. In addition to the establishment of Green Teams at each of our hotels, our Green Partnership program led to the creation of environmentally conscious initiatives such as Eco-Meet, Greening our Greens and our Eco-Innovations Signature program. However, sustainability is about more than just the environment. Sustainability involves thinking about the way we live, how we purchase and what we consume. It means evaluating our methods of socialization, of exchange and of education. It requires us to acknowledge that by transforming our societies, we will improve equity as well as our ability to live in balance with our natural environment. Fairmont recognizes and focuses our efforts across all three areas of priority social, economic and environmental. For us, it s about demonstrating accountability and integrity in the way we conduct business, improving the well-being of local communities and ecosystems, addressing the environmental impacts of our operations, and engaging our stakeholders in a meaningful and collaborative manner. Our Sustainability Teams at each of our properties represent our passionate commitment to being a responsible business and to following the principles of sustainability across our operations. In addition to our commitment to measuring and improving sustainability performance in the long term, the Fairmont Sustainability Partnership provides the framework by which Fairmont s hotels and resorts operate around the globe. 1
We cannot hope to create a sustainable culture with any but sustainable souls. Derrick Jensen
Mission Fairmont will apply our principles to the work we do to enhance the experience of our people and to promote a rich cultural exchange within the communities in which we operate to ensure positive benefits transpire. Vision Investing in the positive development of our people and our communities, while providing memorable experiences in diverse destinations in a manner that promotes long-term sustainability and stewardship. 4 5
1. Responsible business: Conduct business in a manner that is honest, transparent, environmentally responsive and ethical. 2. Sustainable growth: Grow our operations in a sustainable manner that considers the unique environmental locations of our hotels so that our local communities can benefit for years to come. Guiding Principles 3. Integrity: Embed integrity into our decisions so they align with our strategic goals and benefit our people, our community and the environment. 4. Innovation: Use dynamic thinking and innovative technology to enhance the luxury experience, while adapting and responding to the changing market and global environmental issues. 5. Resource efficiency: Reduce the negative impact of our operations. 6. Equality and respect: Conduct business using practices that meet global standards of ethical conduct, which support equality and mutual respect. 7. Communities: Invest in communities to provide growth and positive benefits from our engagement. 8. Focus on our people: Provide our people with opportunities to succeed, grow and give back to their communities. 7
Program Pillars The Fairmont Sustainability Partnership comprises four key pillars that support our holistic approach to sustainability: Responsible Business We strive to conduct our business with integrity and demonstrate accountability for our actions and sustainability commitments. Ecosystem We strive to enhance the well-being of local communities and extend our positive impact beyond our immediate operations to the larger ecosystem. environment We strive to reduce our environmental impact by strategically integrating innovative practices across our operations globally. Engagement We strive to engage and support the stakeholders who are touched by our operations in a holistic and collaborative manner. 8 9
Priorities To ensure our success as we actualize our sustainability pillars, we ve identified key priorities for each.
Responsible Business Priority 1 Disclosure: Create a Corporate Sustainability report and participate in relevant sustainable rankings. Priority 2 Governance: Develop a governance structure to support the direction of sustainability within the company. Priority 3 Accountability: Establish roles and responsibilities for integrating sustainability into operations across the organization. 12
Ecosystem Priority 4 Design and construction: Continue to integrate sustainable practices into design and construction. Priority 5 Biodiversity: Understand and address our impacts on biodiversity. Priority 6 Procurement: Continue to integrate sustainable procurement into our purchasing decisions. 15
Environment Priority 7 Energy: Reduce energy consumption. Priority 8 Water: Reduce water consumption. Priority 9 Waste: Reduce waste generation. Priority 10 CO2e: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 16
