5 About us Origins Founded in 1962, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is the only organisation in Derbyshire working to protect and enhance wildlife and wild places throughout the county. We are a Registered Charity, supported by more than 14,000 members. 6 Job Description Role Title: Fundraising Manager Responsible to: Head of Business Development Responsible for: Corporate & Major Gifts Officer, Volunteers 1. Grow our resources to deliver our Strategic Plan Develop new and innovative fundraising opportunities which ensure the Trust meets its strategic targets and objectives. Lead on major ( million plus) restricted fundraising opportunities for the Trust, working closely with Department Heads to prepare bids for a range of funders and funding bodies such as lottery funding, Landfill Communities Fund and grant making trusts. Gain large contracts from organisations such as national and local government, statutory bodies, Primary Care Trusts and the Local Enterprise Partnership via competitive commissioning and tendering. Secure income to support the delivery of the Trust s strategic priorities, working closely with the other Senior Leadership Team members, and backfilling the use of our unrestricted resources with new funding wherever possible. Lead on the Trust s legacy giving initiatives, and raise the profile of legacies to increase pledges. Working with the Individual Giving Manager, lead on at least two major fundraising appeals each year. Work closely with the Corporate and Major Gifts Officer and Membership Development Team to grow Business Support and individual giving. Develop the skills and capabilities of the team within a robust performance management culture to ensure values driven delivery of team targets. 2. Other Use specialist skills and experience alongside other colleagues to ensure the integrated delivery of the Trust s strategic objectives and priorities. Work closely with the Head of Finance to plan and monitor budgets, meeting the requirement of funding bodies, the Trust and partners. Act as an ambassador for the Trust, promoting the Trust at all times. Use every opportunity, commensurate with other duties, to promote membership of the Trust. Ensure a high level of professionalism in all dealings with the public. Ensure continuous development of skills and knowledge. 6Page 6

8 Job Context This job is in the Business Development Team which seeks to raise funds to achieve thriving and inspiring Living Landscapes across the County as well as supporting the Trust s ambition to be the most active and influential local wildlife charity. The post holder will be based at the Trust headquarters, currently located in Middleton by Wirksworth. Some weekend and bank holiday working and occasional evening working will be necessary. Travel within Derbyshire is required, with occasional travel outside Derbyshire and overnight stays possible. The post holder is required to provide suitable transport, for which appropriate expenses are reimbursed. Successful candidates will be required to insure their vehicle for business use. The Trust employs 51 staff (equivalent of 40.3 F/T staff) and, crucially, enjoys the support of over 480 volunteers. There are four delivery teams; Living Landscapes (North), Living Landscapes (South), Business Development, and Membership & Commercial Development. Each delivery team has a Department Head who reports to the Chief Executive who is responsible for the operations of the Trust and who, in turn, reports to the Board of Trustees which governs the organisation. The four delivery teams are supported by a Finance team and HR. Staff are expected to work harmoniously with each other and with volunteers, to provide appropriate assistance and advice to other staff and volunteers when desirable for the effective undertaking of their respective responsibilities. A willingness to be flexible about working arrangements and to provide occasional cover for absent staff is essential in order to maintain organisational effectiveness. Staff are encouraged to participate in fora and initiatives, relevant to their work, of The Wildlife Trusts Partnership and other organisations. 8 8Page 8
9 What you ll offer us Person Specification Fundraising Manager Qualifications Degree or equivalent in relevant subject. Full UK Driving Licence (preferably clean). Skills and Experience A sound multi-disciplinary background with a recent and successful track record of substantial fundraising bids ( 1 million +) within the not for profit sector from bodies including the Lottery, Landfill Communities Fund, grant making trusts, corporate partners and major donors. Recent experience of gaining large contracts ( 500k+) via competitive commissioning and/or tendering processes from organisations such as national and local government, statutory bodies, Primary Care Trusts and the Local Enterprise Partnership. The ability to develop written cases for support and to match them up to prospects and funders. Recent and substantial experience of leading large, diverse partnerships. Recent experience of leading, growing and developing a team. Expertise in regular giving, annual campaigns and appeals Knowledge and Understanding of Fundraising regulation and practices. Diversity of funders and funding sources. The motivation for giving of all type including legacies. Personal Qualities A strong and inspiring leader with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, able to harness the commitment and enthusiasm of staff. The ability to form and maintain productive relationships at a high level with a variety of busy organisations and individuals. A talent for thinking and working a in a flexible and creative way. 11 Key Terms PAY TThe full time equivalent salary for this role will be between 28,000 and 32,000 per annum PENSION The successful applicant will be auto-enrolled in to the Trust's pension scheme. More details about the scheme and contribution rates are available from the Trust upon request. DEATH IN SERVICE Death in service cover is provided at three times annual salary. LENGTH OF CONTRACT This is a permanent position. LOCATION The post is based at the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust s office at Sandy Hill, Main Street, Middleton, Matlock but candidates will be expected to work at various locations around the county from time to time. WORKING WEEK This is a full time role. Payment for overtime worked in excess of a standard working week is not available, but time off in lieu may be taken by prior arrangement with line managers. LEAVE Annual leave entitlement is 25 days for full time employees. In addition, a period of concessionary leave is awarded to enable the Trust to close its offices between Christmas Eve and the New Year. All leave entitlement is pro rata for part time employees. PROBATIONARY PERIOD A probationary period of six months applies, during which new employees are expected to demonstrate their suitability for the post. NOTICE PERIOD During the period of probationary employment, notice of termination of employment will be one week by either side. After successful completion of the probationary period, the minimum notice period to be given by either party to the other is three months Page 11
