BRAC was founded in Bangladesh in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, and today is a global leader in developing cost-effective, evidence-based poverty innovations in extremely poor, conflict-prone and post-disaster settings. These include programmes in education, healthcare, microfinance, girls empowerment, agriculture, human and legal rights, social enterprises, a bank, a university, and the world s largest mobile money platform. In 2016, BRAC employed more than 100,000 people in 11 countries, with a total global expenditure of about $900 million. BRAC is also unique among the world s major non-profits in that its overall budget is majority self-financed. In Bangladesh, where BRAC was founded and is the location of its global headquarters, BRAC financed 76% of its $682 million average annual national budget from 2011 to 2015 from its own socially-responsible businesses. In January 2017 BRAC was ranked as the number one NGO in the world for the second consecutive year by the Geneva-based NGO Advisor, an independent media organisation committed to highlighting innovation, impact and governance in the non-profit sector. Pragmatic, adaptive, BRAC can now play any game, whether using for-profit or non-profit approaches, to face and challenge systems of inequity, said NGO Advisor in its review of BRAC. BRAC ticks every box this year, with extra scoring for the clarity of its five-year strategic vision and its willingness to expand its international outreach Today, BRAC is more than a reference; it is leading the non-profit world toward its next degree of efficiency and leverage said NGO Advisor Editor-in-Chief Jean-Christophe Nothias. About BRAC UK BRAC UK works to raise resources for BRAC s programmes in Africa and Asia, raise awareness about BRAC across Europe and develop partnerships with local and global organisations, donor agencies, academic and research institutions and governments. Between 2015 and 2020 BRAC UK aims to bring BRAC s life-changing services to 10 million people. We are well on our way. We are concentrating our efforts on three priorities; education and empowerment, equitable economic development and access to health and water, sanitation and hygiene services. A small team of eleven staff, based in London work closely with our central office in Bangladesh and country programme staff to develop projects and funding proposals for a range of donors, including DFID, EuropeAid, corporates, trusts, foundations and individuals. The BRAC UK team also manage and support the accountability element of the grants received. BRAC UK has a target of raising 50m by 2020 through funding direct to BRAC UK and also supporting other BRAC entities to fundraise. BRAC UK s Programmes team is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, writing proposals and managing existing grants. The team works with bilateral funders, foundations 2
3 and partner NGOs to design, raise funds for and manage outstanding programmes which help people lift themselves out of poverty. The Programmes Support Assistant an important role for the success of the programme development at BRAC-UK and the 11 BRAC countries and various programmes that BRAC delivers. Job Description Job Title: Reports to: Location: Salary: Programmes Support Assistant Programmes Director Southwark, London 20,000 per annum Key relationships: Internally - BRAC UK (CEO, Programmes Team, Finance Team, Strategic Partnerships Team and Communications Team), BRAC International, BRAC Country Offices Externally - Institutional Donors, Partner Organisations, External Consultants Main Purpose The Programmes Support Assistant will provide critical support to the programmes team in their work for both project management and new business development. This will involve searching for and reviewing new business opportunities, maintaining and improving the coordination, communication and management of this information across all 11 BRAC countries, and helping the programmes team to research and prepare proposals. We are looking for someone with demonstrated capacity to learn fast and manage multiple tasks. This is an important role for the success of the programme development at BRAC-UK and the 11 BRAC countries and various programmes that BRAC delivers. Working closely with the 4 Programme Leads you will support with research, coordination, information and analysis of programme fundraising. The role offers an opportunity for progression in the programmes department once you have gained experienced and proven your capacity. Throughout 2017 the Programmes team have been working closely with each of the country teams to define priority and focus areas for developing the programme portfolios. This role will analyse these plans and the donor and partner landscape in the UK and Europe to enable targeted fundraising and partnership development. Key Responsibilities Business Development Donor/partner research (including monitoring a funding/donor management site and reviewing updates) and analysis in respect to identifying and early stage communications with donors and partners that are most likely deliver resources and value for BRAC; Identification of new business opportunities from a range of sources including multi and bi-lateral donors, trusts, foundations and global challenges (weekly scanning of funding sources); Early stage relationship development in respect to opening doors, and phone canvassing and the provision of appropriate materials to obtain meetings or invitations for your programme colleagues; Management of the new business, project list and pipeline using Salesforce including the maintenance of a central database of global opportunities by liaising with BRAC in Dhaka and the remaining 10 BRAC country offices; Maintaining a schedule of deadlines and important dates for programme management; Writing, editing and research support for new business work including working with programme leads and country technical teams to write and deliver concepts and proposals to a range of donors, partners and internal stakeholders ; Bringing together and maintaining BRAC and BRAC-UK s institutional and programmatic knowledge in a way that enables it s effective and efficient utilisation; Coordination/communication of new business work, Standard Operating Procedure and processes across BRAC entities; Managing proposal approval and due diligence for new business opportunities; Managing knowledge of key partners and the existing relationships/kinds of agreements these partners have with BRAC; Organisational Strengthening (Business Development) Manage the Salesforce database and processes, and develop improvements in process, policies, data and reporting making Salesforce an effective organisational tool for tracking new business opportunities pipeline, contacts and projects; Assisting with visibility, reporting and transparency of the new business pipeline and resource planning and allocation; 4
5 Communications When representing BRAC-UK within BRAC the internal communications of BRAC UK s value addition and role; Communicating with all BRAC countries, BRAC International and BRAC in Bangladesh concerning fundraising activities, lessons learned and donor/partner intelligence to enable all BRAC entities to take advantage of all relevant opportunities; this may include finding new and innovative ways to engage and communicate with your global colleagues. Other responsibilities To undertake other activities that lie within the remit of this role, as directed by the Programme Director. Terms This is a permanent full-time post subject to funding based on a 35 hour week (plus one hour for lunch). The employee handbook guide details other terms and conditions of employment. Salary and pension The salary for this post is 20,000 pa. Salary increases are considered annually although the organisation is under no obligation to increase salaries year on year. New employees are eligible to join the NEST pension scheme to which the company makes a matched contribution of up to 4 per cent of salary per annum, on completion of their probationary period. Holidays Leave entitlement is at the rate of 25 days per annum in addition to the statutory holidays. Location 5

Person Specification Essential Qualification Undergraduate Degree in international development, international relations or, business, sales & marketing, economics, history, English and geography Skills Excellent research, synthesis and analytical skills Excellent written, verbal, presentation and communication skills Excellent report writing skills with the ability to present complex data and knowledge in simple, concise forms A good understanding of budgeting and strong numerical skills Strong organisational and administrative skills, able to operate efficiently and reliably without additional administrative support Ability to communicate with new and existing contacts and present a concise, compelling vision of your case Experience An good understanding of the global development landscape 1-2 years work in a position where your experience addresses the job description Experience writing compelling and concise reports, proposals and/or other written materials Proven experience undertaking detailed research, synthesis and analysis of data & knowledge Presentation of your findings to a range of audiences and formats Experience pitching your ideas, products or services to internal and/or external stakeholders Desirable 1 st Class honours degree in international development, international relations or, business, sales and marketing, economics, history, English and geography Advanced level use of Microsoft software, Sales Force and research, presentation and analytical tools; Experience living and working/volunteering in a developing country Experience working for a corporation, foundation, NGO or INGO with a focus on development, social business and/or enterprise Record of prospect, opening doors to and presenting products, services and/or concepts to new partners and/or clients Proven track record of donor research and success with writing winning proposals (individually or part of a winning team) Experience with a global development organisation/social enterprise/ impact investment organisation. 6
