This post is a full time (35 hours per week) appointment with some evening and weekend working expected. Where working hours exceed those stated above, Volunteer Centre Lambeth operates a Time off in Lieu policy. Volunteer Centre Lambeth is not in a position to pay over-time. This post is offered on a temporary contract of 12 months The post may involve working with children and Vulnerable Adults, which means this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. The successful applicant will therefore be subject to a CRB check as part of the appointment process. Post/Project Overview This project is part of an organisational strategy to transform the local Civil Society Sector and the LVAC/VCL business models to make them more sustainable and less dependent on state funding. This post will be situated within the Volunteer Centre and will be responsible for spearheading this initiative, by working towards the following strategic priorities: To explore potential opportunities to generate income and prepare and implement strategies to secure funds and support through the development of a portfolio of services and the establishment of a competitive fee structure. To build relationships and broker partnerships across sectors with an emphasis on attracting and securing pro bono support through fee generating Corporate Social Responsibility activity. To plan and deliver a series of innovative, high impact and engaging events which act as a platform for exchange and networking to provide value for participating businesses and community organisations. To develop and implement a marketing and promotional campaign to promote the project and VCL generally. Page 1
2 Research, Commercial Strategy & Planning Key Areas of Work To conduct research and establish a competitive fee structure and menu of chargeable options for partners across the Private, Public and Civil Society Sectors. This will include research into current SV projects, identifying the needs of partners, reviewing VCL s current services and developing a realistic and competitive pricing strategy and membership offer. To research potential new employer partners to join the new VCL scheme, and to arrange meetings to present a compelling offer for them to become paying members of the VCL programme. To work with the CO and Volunteer Centre Manager to establish financial targets each year, and to then manage the project to achieve these targets To develop and implement a marketing and promotional strategy for the project (see below). Project Development and Project Management To oversee the development of a varied annual programme of employee volunteering activities for local employers, geared to members of Volunteer Centre Lambeth s SV programme with the following criteria: o To ensure a high quality range of volunteering opportunities including both physical Team Challenge events and innovative, skills-based volunteer opportunities. o To provide ranges of ongoing and seasonal opportunities (e.g. summer, winter). o To encourage take-up of volunteering and the building of sustained partnerships to achieve annual targets for participation. o To assist and encourage employers to promote these opportunities internally. To provide project management and event delivery where appropriate (as required depending on the event). People Management To establish goals for posts you will line manage, and provide excellent line-management support for them in ensuring they meet these objectives. To work towards good practice in the management of paid staff and volunteers as per LVAC s management policy. To ensure effective management of designated staff/volunteers. Network Building and Outreach To explore and develop opportunities to work in partnership with other volunteer centres and other employee volunteering brokers that operate within London. To support the development of a network of Lambeth-based not-for-profit organisations identifying volunteering opportunities suitable for corporate volunteers. This will be done directly, and through the effective line management of the Brokerage Development Officer. To form a Steering Committee to support the project, comprised of local organisations and corporate members of the new SV programme. Marketing and Promotion To develop and implement a marketing and promotional strategy for the project, to include promotional and informative material in hard and web-based formats, the use of social media and production of short films to promote the project. To promote employee volunteering and the achievements of employee volunteers through publicity material, press releases and events to acknowledge the work of the volunteers, the support of the employers, and the benefits they deliver to the local community. To promote sustainable employee volunteering to Lambeth companies and increase the membership of project to achieve annual targets. Page 2
3 vent Management To host innovative, high profile and engaging events in the Borough of Lambeth, as a platform for launching the project s services and building partnerships across sectors. These events will be the core activity of the project and will offer opportunities for the corporate and statutory sector to support the voluntary and community sector through challenge events and skills exchange activities. To facilitate partnerships and advisory groups and prepare VCL to work in partnership with public, private and civil society sector organisations. To work innovatively and creatively to ensure each event is delivered with impact. Quality, Monitoring and valuation To regularly monitor, evaluate and review the activity of the project and to evaluate the impact for the Centre s annual statistics and report to the Centre s board of trustees. Work with the Volunteer Centre Manager to ensure the project is contributing towards achieving quality in the six core functions of a Volunteer Centre and collate relevant evidence and data for the VCQA portfolio. To record and collate monitoring and evaluation statistics and compile reports for funding bodies and the Volunteer Centre s internal monitoring procedures. General Duties To play an active part in the Volunteer Centre s team of paid and volunteer staff, taking on additional tasks as agreed with your line manger Comply with all Volunteer Centre policies and procedures Page 3
4 GNRAL RSPONSIBILITIS (common to all staff members) To help ensure that the equality of opportunity is integral to LVAC s work and in particular, to ensure that the needs interest of black and minority ethnic and other marginalised groups are fully recognised in all aspects of its work. To undertake all necessary steps to be familiar with the Health and Safety Policy, taking due regard for the health and safety of oneself, colleagues and visitors co-ordinating in the implementation and observation of statutory requirements. To work with other LVAC/VCL team members, to attend LVAC staff meetings, supervision, training (as identified and deemed appropriate), trustee meetings (as and when required) and other activities as appropriate. To be part of LVAC/VCL s rota when necessary, providing holiday and sickness cover etc. To be self-servicing administratively, e.g. undertaking own word processing, report preparation, photocopying, etc. Together with other members of the LVAC team prepare material for Lambeth Link; LVAC s newsletter and the LVAC and VCL websites. To contribute to LVAC/VCL s role as a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) by developing an awareness of the requirements of Lambeth s voluntary sector. To champion the Lambeth Compact. To produce progress reports for funders and contribute to the general fundraising for your post. All staff are required to work to a work-plan and take responsibility for the monitoring and evaluation of their work area. To promote the role and membership of LVAC/VCL by the development and positive marketing of its support services. To treat with confidentiality any information about individual voluntary organisations and/or users, staff, volunteers etc of individual voluntary organisations that is personal, private or sensitive. To undertake any other task that may be required occasionally, in furtherance to LVAC s objectives.
