4 Aspiring to higher levels 4 Levels of Apprenticeships More than 170 industries and 1500 job roles from advertising to youth work via environmental engineering and nuclear decommissioning.
5 Higher and Degree level Apprenticeships 5 Apprenticeships have been developed at levels 4, 5 and 6 and are being developed at level 7. This enables apprentices to progress into professional and chartered status jobs Higher Apprenticeship frameworks often include higher education type qualifications New Degree level Apprenticeships contain first degree level qualifications awarded by HEIs. The apprentice gets the advantage of higher education without the student debt which can accompany it Employers can help tailor the training which their apprentice receives, thus making it more relevant to their business needs Increased interest from local employers in Apprenticeships Insert presentation title here 00/00/2012
6 Increasing Skill Level Skills escalator 6 Foundation Degree Graduate Higher Apprentices with top up to Hon s Degree provide a compelling alternative to Graduates Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Care Arts, Media and Publishing Business, Administration and Law High Skilled Higher Apprenticeships College Higher Apprenticeships are ideally suited to the development of high end technology or junior management roles Construction, Planning and the Built Environment Education and Training Advanced Apprenticeships Higher Secondary Advanced Skilled Advanced Apprenticeships develop individuals skills required to function effectively in supervisory roles Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Health, Public Services and Care Intermediate Skilled Intermediate Apprenticeships Lower Secondary Intermediate Apprenticeships develop workforce skills to carry out operative level functions Information and Communication Technology Leisure, Travel and Tourism Retail and Commercial Enterprise
7 Apprenticeship Funding year olds - high priority, full funding is available (up to advanced level) as long as it is needed to support learning year olds - there is an expected employer contribution of around 50%, this contribution may be in-kind 24 years and older - the government contribution is lower and may not be available at all. Remember this does not mean you should not take on an older apprentice, it simply reflects the availability of public funding NB: The above relates to apprenticeship funding for the training element. The employer is still responsible for paying the apprentice s wages.
8 Roles and requirements 8 Role of the apprentice: a mix of work and learning, needs to commit to their job role and apply themselves to the learning Role of the employer: employs the apprentice for at least 30 hours per week, responsible for induction of apprentice. Contract of employment Role of the learning provider/college: Provides learning input and assessment of learner progression. Provides guidance to both employer and apprentice. Minimum Apprenticeship requirements: 30 hours per week, minimum of 12 months duration, pay at least 2.73 per hour ( 3.30 per hour from October 2015)
