1 2013 Graduate Trainee Programme Bank of China (Hong Kong) is committed to staff development. Candidates will be presented with two positions, namely Management Trainee and Officer Trainee from which they may choose. A centralized application and selection process with flexibility in career preference allows you to pave your own career path. With your interest indicated, you may be considered in both positions in parallel. Management Trainee Programme An Overview BOCHK has been organising the "Management Trainee Programme" (hereafter called the "MT Programme") since Our MT Programme offers a promising career path to outstanding university graduates. The 30-month Programme aims to nurture bright, potential and young executives, and to develop future leaders for our business. Training and Development Our MT Programme comprises a wide array of activities like focused lectures, on-the-job training, job rotations and shadowing. We also provide mentoring and ongoing performance coaching to help Management Trainees develop the required skill sets. In addition, Management Trainees are required to complete special projects or assignments, and participate in cross-departmental events to broaden their horizons and gain practical experience. First 2 weeks: Orientation The first two weeks of the MT Programme provide a comprehensive overview of the Bank's structure, corporate culture, business strategies, products and service offerings, as well as regulatory requirements. 1
2 20 Months + 9 Months: Job Rotation Management Trainees are offered job rotations in three core business segments, including Corporate and Institutional Banking, Personal Banking, and Financial Markets, for a 20-month period. Another 9-month rotational training will be carried out in two or more functional areas including but not limited to Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Bank-wide Operations. Management Trainees can gain experience in banking business and operations, as well as develop work relationships during the rotational training. 1 Month: Executive Shadowing Management Trainees will act as a shadow toan executive for a month. Through observing and interacting with their hosts, trainees will have a better understanding of our executives' daily routine, while more importantly, receive the chances of acquiring practical management skills, decision making techniques and leadership. Job shadowing offers our Management Trainees real-life experience to see how executives translate classroom knowledge into work practice. Short-Term Secondment to Bank of China With the valuable opportunity to be seconded to Bank of China, the mother company of BOCHK, Management Trainees will gain valuable exposure across the border in a challenging business environment, as well as building their network for future success. Mentoring and Support Throughout the 30-month MT Programme, Management Trainees will be assigned a seasoned mentor who will provide them with coaching and bird's eye view guidance. By closely monitoring the learning progress of trainees, mentors will regularly assess and manage their performance. During the course of specific rotation, experienced managers will also act as a line mentor to provide Management Trainees with technical training and timely feedback for development. Together, mentors and managers will work closely to facilitate the learning of our trainees. 2
3 Career Path Management Trainees will be offered managerial positions upon successful completion of the MT Programme with continuous coaching and training support. BOCHK cares about the career development of its staff and is committed to enhancing their professionalism and management skills. Qualifications 1. Final year student graduating in summer 2013 or bachelor degree holder with at least upper second honours (or equivalent), master degree holder preferred 2. Less than three years' work experience 3. Possess superior organizing and planning ability, strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as outstanding analytical and leadership qualities 4. Dynamic, self-motivated, passionate and determined to succeed 5. A good team player 6. Proficient in both English and Chinese. Fluent in Mandarin is an advantage Officer Trainee Programme An Overview The mission of our 24-month "Officer Trainee Programme" (hereafter called the "OT Programme") is to bring in fresh ideas and build new momentum for the Bank. Fresh graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in banking industry are welcome. An intensive training program will enable high-calibre individuals to gain exposure to one of our departments, including but not limited to Corporate and Institutional Banking, Channel Management, Personal Banking and Product Management, Risk Management, and Bank-wide Operations. Training and Development The OT Programme comprises a series of activities including focused lectures, on-the-job training and job rotations. Officer Trainees are required to complete special projects or assignments, and participate in cross-departmental events to broaden their horizons and gain practical experience. 3
4 Orientation Officer Trainees will receive an overview of our Bank's structure, corporate culture and compliance requirements during orientation. Foundational Training Aiming to put our Officer Trainees on a fast track to success, specific functional knowledge and technical skills will be shared through our well-established training curriculum. In addition, external training will be arranged for Officer Trainees according to their roles and needs. On-the-Job Training and Job Rotation Officer trainees will be given on-the-job training opportunities in the functional department which they belong to. Through practical guidance from department managers, Officer Trainees can accumulate both knowledge and experience in banking business. Our rotational assignments provide Officer Trainees with excellent learning opportunities by working in various positions or business units. Exposure to banking business and operations can be enriched, while relationships can be built. Career Path Career path of Officer Trainees varies by job families and business segments. Officer Trainees are expected to take up supervisory roles or be our key individual contributors upon completion of the OT Programme. Regular sessions will be conducted to review future career development of Officer Trainees. Qualifications 1.
