1 Orientation Checklist The following checklist provides a guide for your first few months. You can initiate many of these steps and others will contact you in some cases. Please print this checklist and make sure you receive the orientation as described. Any suggestions for additions or changes to this checklist are appreciated. Before the First Day of Work Staff: Communicate with new re: housing or moving, stay in contact regularly, orientation plans Have work space, equipment and keys ready Send welcome packet (cover letter; Who We Are document; head set; desk plate; name tag; information about , etension and the Ag Info Center People database; electronic communication use guidelines; and uniform instructions (if eligible). Director's introduction of new to all-ext and others as appropriate Send new agent handbook (agents only) First Week on the Job Staff: Host a coffee or lunch to welcome the new Discuss educational role and basic responsibilities Share County Management Information
2 Staff: Explain: hours Parking Building information Break and lunch arrangements Telephone and mail procedures Introduce Mentee (new employee) to, ask for bio-sketch Talk about reporting and forms: Quarterly Program Reports Narratives to commissioners and others (Narrative Reporting page) Travel policies Leave forms File management Equipment and supplies Interoffice communication Budget Computer set-up Meet individually with to learn about their responsibilities, relationships and office organization Begin Orientation on the Web, at Call Human Resources at re: benefits: health and life insurance, retirement, annuities, Employee Assistance Program Call new to review: Expense forms Travel regulations and forms Leave policies Baseline Safety Training Conflict of Interest Sexual Harassment Training NDSU Policy Manual:
3 Staff: Assign and relay Ag Info Center ID and help set up if needed Call new to visit about orientation process Ag Comm. Contact local media about new, if appropriate Introduce new to others in the office/building on a tour Order business cards / enclosures Add photo and information to Ag Info Center People record First Month on the Job Staff: Connecting with local officials Review the program planning process at ing/ Talk about subject matter and skill training opportunities Talk about resources for demographics and "politics;" identify key contacts Discuss: Advisory councils Needs assessments Program delivery methods Program evaluation Performance appraisal process
4 Staff: Review relationships with NDSU teaching, research and Extension Schedule to have new spend days in other offices If you have 4-H responsibilities, meet with 4-H center chair re: Philosophy Program areas Activities and events Reporting Youth Protection Policy Share resources: Tuition waiver Developmental leave 4-H Rep Invite new to your office for a day or two (list of ideas to discuss) Share what a strong program includes signature, core and/or pilot Within the First 2 Months Staff: Make contact with mentee and review process to date. Complete bio sketch and mentee needs assessment Share ideas on promotion and marketing Ag Comm.

Chair Attend on-campus orientation led by Staff Development; includes campus visits Attend a pre-, post- or duringconference session with other new Take part in educational design distance education program led by Staff Development At End of 6 Months District Director, Assistant Director Connect between mentor, mentee and district director to determine next steps April 2016
