3 Role of the Service Provide an impartial service to employers for the range of Apprenticeships offered and the provider base delivering them Small Business Team (up to 249 employees) Account Management Service (250 employees and above) Increase and expand the number of Apprenticeship places offered by employers Make it easier for employers to recruit apprentices and for individuals to search and apply for Apprenticeship vacancies Increase the number, quality and diversity of people applying for Apprenticeships, and in particular supporting year olds Service

5 What is an Apprenticeship? Outline A job with training Relevant to the job role - minimum of 30 hours per week Leads to nationally recognised qualifications Minimum duration of 12 months Over 200 types of Apprenticeship frameworks E.g. IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals, Accounting, Business Administration Offered at three levels of qualification: Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4 and above) Designed for businesses by business experts Usually lasting from one to four years varies by sector subject area 5

8 What costs are involved? Training Costs Apprentices aged 16 to 18 zero training costs for employer Fully funded by government Apprentices aged up to 50% employer contribution 50% funded by government Apprentices aged very limited funding and subject to availability Introduction of FE Loans from 2013 Employer / Apprentice to contribute towards training costs Government investment enables your Learning and Development Budgets to go further 8

9 What costs are involved? Salary Employer pays the Apprentice a salary Apprentice minimum wage is 2.65 per hour Applicable to apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship Most employers pay more reflecting sector rates and experience Employer issues a Contract of Employment 9

10 What is the Process? 1. Identify the organisational / recruitment needs 2. Confirm a job opportunity 3. Define the knowledge and skills required for the job 4. Select the appropriate Apprenticeship framework 5. Source and select an appropriate Training Provider 6. Design and Agree a Training Plan 7. Monitor progress and outcomes 8. 11 How do I find an apprentice? Apprenticeship vacancies Apprenticeship vacancies is our free on-line, simple to use and access* vacancy service. Allows employers seeking an apprentice to access a wider pool of talent Individuals can search and apply for Apprenticeship vacancies in their chosen sector, location etc *vacancies can only be advertised on the website through registered Training Provider. 11 Service

12 Incentive for SMEs: AGE Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE 16-24) to take on a young apprentice for the first time 40,000 Apprenticeship grants for small-medium sized employers recruiting 16 to 24 year olds with a value of 1,500 Our priority is to use the grant to support those employers new to Apprenticeships offering new jobs This grant is available until March 2013 To find out more 12 Service
