2 CHAMPS2 Business Change Management A vision-led, benefits-driven approach for achieving sustainable, holistic and transformational business change Introduction APSE training and CHAMPS2 Training and Consulting are offering a one day group overview on CHAMPS2 business change management for senior managers in public service. The session explains the importance of using a structured method for managing change projects and demonstrates the need for effective governance and a robust approach for benefits management. The CHAMPS2 change management overview is aimed at the Senior Managers at a governance level and will brief them on their role in change projects and how CHAMPS2 can help to manage the diverse project environment and deliver holistic change in a local authority context. The session is an intensive one day interactive group training overview for between 15 and 20 participants, involving presentations and group discussions. Participants can take away learning, tools and techniques in managing change that can bring real value and make a real difference. Objectives of the session Explain the importance of using a structured method for managing and delivering change Describe the 8 phases of the CHAMPS2 business change management approach Explore roles and responsibilities and decision making process through the change journey Identify the CHAMPS2 control aspects and documents that provide sponsors with information about a project to assist with decision making Demonstrate the value of using CHAMPS2 for public service change projects By attending the workshop session, delegates will gain sufficient understanding of the key principles of CHAMPS2, to enable them to successfully apply the relevant aspects of the method to change projects in their own organisations. Duration of session 1 day event: 9:30 to 16:15
3 Who will benefit? The training session will benefit anyone at a senior level responsible for delivering change programmes of any scale and any level of complexity, including senior managers, programme leaders, project sponsors and managers of major change projects within a local authority and other public sector organisations. The session is also beneficial to anyone who wishes to gain an introduction to more advance levels in CHAMPS2 business change management. What s included in the session? The session includes delegates documentation and course material including suggested practices and a demonstration of the free on-line CHAMPS2 business change toolkit and downloadable resources. Lunch and refreshments will also be provided. Please note that the fee does not include travel, parking or hotel accommodation costs. Trainers The session will be delivered by Elena Martin CHAMPS2, supported by Jan Kennedy Head of APSE Training. Elena Martin CHAMPS2 Elena Martin is a Business Change Manager and Consultant specialising in business transformation across the public sector. She has extensive experience in project and programme management and the delivery of holistic change, encompassing process design, organisation restructure and the implementation of new technologies. Prior to her current role at Birmingham City Council, Elena s previous experience includes a position within the Business Transformation Centre of Excellence for Service Birmingham Ltd and senior project consultant roles with Serco and ITnet. Elena has also played a key role in supporting transformational change across Birmingham City Council with the co-development of the council s CHAMPS2 business change method. CHAMPS2 has provided a structured path via which the council has delivered its radical ten year change programme. Conscious of the ever increasing need for change and innovation in the current context of austerity, Elena is keen to promote recognition of change management as a profession and raise change management capability across the public sector. Elena also collaborated with APMG International (a global examination institute and accreditation body) to establish a formal business change management qualification for CHAMPS2, which is available internationally at Foundation and Practitioner levels. She was also the lead author of the accompanying book: CHAMPS2-Realising Transformational Change.
4 Jan Kennedy APSE Jan Kennedy is Head of APSE Training and has responsibility for the learning, skills and development arm of the Association. Since Joining APSE, Jan delivers the majority of APSE s training programme including Supervisory skills across all service sectors, Managing Change, Project Management, and Service Level Agreements. Jan also co-delivers on the APSE Health and Safety Masterclasses. Jan has a background in training and development, firstly as an executive training officer in central government where she gained her CIPD in Training and Development and in local government, where she joined Liverpool City Council as a member of the corporate training team. Jan has experience of managing and delivering a wide range of training and development including Liverpool s One Stop Shop training programme. Prior to joining APSE, Jan managed the Lifelong Learning Employability curriculum in Adult Learning and Community Education. Jan also holds a Certificate in Post 16 Education and a CLAIT Advanced in ICT and is qualified in Level A and Level B in Psychometric testing. Her current study is helping learners with dyslexia. It is a vision-led, benefitsdriven approach to managing the delivery of business change, helping organisations undergo change and realise benefits, whilst developing in-house change management expertise. The method is particularly suited to service redesign and the creation of new and innovative business models. It is a structured and holistic approach, enabling the implementation of organisation design changes, IT solutions and business processes at the right time and in the right order. It focuses on benefits throughout, reduces duplication of effort and minimises risk and cost. Continuous professional development with CHAMPS2: Delegates will be given further information on how they can gain a formal change management qualification with accredited CHAMPS2 training. The formal CHAMPS2 qualification was launched in November 2010, with the accreditation and certification awarded at Foundation and Practitioner levels by APMG International (a global examination institute), alongside other methods in their portfolio, including Prince2, MSP and ITIL. CHAMPS2 is recognised nationally and internationally as a best practice leader in transformational change. Increasingly, organisations across all sectors now perceive the method as a valuable addition to their existing toolkit of methods and approaches

Substitution of delegates is acceptable any time in writing by post, to jkennedy@apse.org.uk or fax to Cancellations must be made in writing at least 10 working days before the event and will incur a 75 administration fee. The full delegate fee will be payable for cancellations received less than 10 working days before the event or for nonattendance. All fees are non-refundable after the cancellation period.
