INDUSTRIAL CHALLENGE 2015 The 6 th Industrial Challenge Systems Thinking : Break Through Industrial Competitiveness INDUSTRIAL CHALLENGE 2015 Industrial Challenge (INCHALL) is a competition regarding Industrial Engineering competence among universities held by Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Industri (HMTI), Industrial Engineering Department, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. The competition is made for several purposes, such as applying the core competences of Industrial Engineering knowledge, developing student s ability to solve industrial problems, improving ability to design and engineer the elements that affect industrial system as a preparation for working environment, and supporting knowledge and insight exchange among the participants of the competition. The topic that will be the focus on INCHALL 2015 is Systems Thinking: Break Through Industrial Competitiveness. Systems Thinking is a basic competence of an Industrial Engineering student on decision making process regarding solution that will be used to solve complex industrial problems. In this competition, participants will face real cases that happened on an industry that can be solved by systems thinking to perform decision making towards solution on dealing, anticipating, and controlling existing problems. SYSTEMS THINKING Traditional rational thinking is still largely based on reductionist and cause-and-effect modes. These may not be able to cope with complexity, leading to narrowly focused, piece-meal decision making which may result in unplanned outcomes and which from overall point may be ineffective. (Hans G. Daellenbach & Donald C. McNickle, Management Science: Decision making through Systems Thinking 2 nd ed, 2012) Systems thinking helps us to understand the structure and dynamics of the complex systems in which we live, from organizational change to climate change, from physiology to financial markets. The structure of systems must be understood broadly, including physical elements (such as the concentration of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the time delays in a
supply chain), institutions (such as markets and governments), human behavior (such as the way we make decisions) and the mental models that shape how we perceive and interpretation the world. These elements interact and coevolve to generate the world we experience. (John, D Sterman, 2013) According to system thinking, if we examines the interactions of the parts in a system, we can seeing the larger patterns emerge. By seeing the patterns, the understanding of the how systems works is clear. The Decision will be taken by how the patterns of the problems. Systems Thinking strives for effectiveness in terms of the systems as a whole, rather than narrow efficiency of its parts. Systems thinking offers several key lesson for business, such as: 1. Expand the boundaries of our mental models 2. Recognize constraints 3. Move beyond technical solutions 4. Confront Our Values 5. Recognize that we can make a difference More and more business are developing the systems thinking capabilities of their people and realizing large benefits.
PARTICIPANTS & SCHEDULE REGISTRATION 1. INCHALL 2015 participants are teams consisted of 3 (three) persons. 2. The membership of each member of the team could not be changed in the future for any reason. 3. Each member of the team must be registered as a student of Industrial Engineering Department (Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Egineering Management ; S1/Undergraduate Level) from the same university. 4. Each university or institute is allowed to register maximum of 5 teams for Online Selection. 5. Registration of INCHALL 2015 is free. 6. To be participant of INCHALL 2015, each team must register for an account at 7. Account will be made by fulfilling data forms and requirements, i.e.: a) Photo of each member of the team b) Student card of each member of the team, which is expired up to April After completing the registration process, the participant will get a verification e- mail from INCHALL The verified team will get additional menu in their account that consists of participants data and an access to join Online Selection. 10. Any further information of INCHALL 2015 is available at
ONLINE TEST Preliminary stage in INCHALL 2015 is testing the participant knowledge about Industrial Engineering Science through Online Competition. In this stage every participants that has been registered will get account to join the Online Test through Team Page menu. The Competition schedule for each team will be announced in 26 th December INCHALL 2015 Online Selection will be grouped into 7 (seven) regions as follow: 1. Region 1 : Sumatera and Kalimantan 2. Region 2 : West Java and Banten (except Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) 3. Region 3 : Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi 4. Region 4 : Central Java and Yogyakarta 5. Region 5 : East Java 6. Region 6 : Sulawesi, Papua, Bali, NTB, and NTT 7. Region 7 : South East Asia (except Indonesia) The 15 teams that will continue to the next stage will consist of 2 best teams from each region (Region 1 Region 6) and 3 best teams from Region 7.
RE-REGISTRATION Every team that has passed the Online Test has to do Re-registration. The Reregistration due date is at 10 th February th February 2015 and requires every team to prepare the some documents below: Data forms of each participant Payments evidence of registration fee Certificate of Active Student Each document should be sent by softcopy form.zip/.rar format, with subject and filename format region_teamname and sent to The deadline of sending documents is in 24 th February For this Re-registration procedure each team needs to pay Registration Fee of 200 USD for the international participant (*) (except Indonesia) and IDR for the National participants. The payments should be transferred to: BANK CIMB NIAGA In the name of : Annisa Rizka Fitri Amalia Account Number : (*) Swift Code : bni adja (*) 1 USD = Rp FINAL STAGE Final stage is stage that be held after online test. 15 best teams from all over Indonesia and International Team in online test will continue this competition to final stage. Final stage will be held at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya, Indonesia in 4 March 2014 until 7 March Final stages will consist of elimination stages and grand final stage. Elimination stages are consists of 1 st stage and 2 nd stage. In this stage, participant must have communication skill, analytic skill and courage to make decision about industrial engineering science. Committee will provide accommodation and transportation during participant in Surabaya. The further information will be announced by committee through official website.
GRAND FINAL Grand final stage is the last stage of INCHALL Best five teams from elimination stage may solve the Case Study which goal is to solve problems related to the theme. We expect each team to give a feasible recommendation in solving the problem. The biggest challenge in this stage is that the participant needs to have broad insights of what is it really happening in Indonesia right now and using Industrial Engineering competences as tools to help solving it. The best team with best performance and feasible solution will be the winner of INCHALL Put your game face on and get ready to compete! Note: Any changes of the schedule, requirement, and regulation above will immediately announced through our website PRIZE 1 st place : USD nd place : USD rd place : USD 750 (*) USD 1: IDR COMMITTEE CONTACT: If you have any question about INCHALL 2015, please do not hesitate to contact us in these numbers: A A Gede Putra Semarajaya Achmad Fauzi Rihardika : (putra.semarajaya@gmail.com) : (a_fauzi_r@yahoo.com) Official Twitter Fan Page Inchall2015 Website
