We won t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Mind employs over 200 staff and we have a team of volunteers. Most staff are based in Stratford, London, there is an office in Cardiff and there are a number of dispersed staff working across England and Wales. The Network Data Analyst will: Develop local Mind data collection processes and analytic tools; Develop data insight methods to enhance Mind s understanding of, and ability to promote, the collective impact of the local Mind network across England and Wales; Present and interpret data insights in a variety of formats, settings and for different internal and external audiences; Manage bespoke requests for data insight from within Mind and the local Mind network. The post is based in the Networks Unit and reports to the Network Operations Manager. Mind has a federated charity model in which independent local Mind associations across England and Wales are affiliated to Mind via a Community Partnership Agreement. The local Mind network provides a wide range of services, and data and intelligence about those services is needed to inform Mind s strategy on extending network coverage and reach. The Network Data Analyst will develop 1
2 and maintain sophisticated data collection, interpretation and presentation tools for colleagues in Mind and the local Mind network across England and Wales. This data is expected to help Mind colleagues across the organisation promote the local Mind network as service providers and enable local Minds to achieve their goals. Scope of the job The network of local Minds provides services to more than 400,000 people per year and is one of the major third sector providers of mental health services across England and Wales. It is a diverse network, with huge variety in size, outlook, skills and interests. Many local Minds are community hubs; their local roots and knowledge ensure we have an impact that is much wider and deeper than other service providers. You will be based in the Networks and Communities Department as part of the Networks Unit and report to the Network Operations Manager. You will be expected to work closely with key Heads of service in the department and across Mind and with senior colleagues in the local Mind network. Mind has strategic goals to extend the network s coverage and reach across England and Wales and strengthen its collective impact and influence. By helping to build a stronger, larger network, the Unit helps to achieve Mind s mission that everyone with a mental health problem gets both support and respect. The Network Data Analyst will provide Mind and local Mind colleagues with the data and intelligence they need to make the most of the network s talents and resources in achieving Mind s mission. Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. You are expected to contribute to this aim. Key responsibilities 1. Develop data collection processes and analytic tools and maintain accurate datasets to provide valuable data and intelligence about the network of local Minds in England and Wales. This includes business intelligence and data that helps promote local Minds as service providers. 2. Work with key colleagues to ensure that Mind s approach to local Mind data collection and management is robust and that different systems are integrated and connected. 3. Use data to gain and share important insights about local Minds and the network, so that local Minds and Mind understand a range of variables including impact, sustainability, reach and opportunities for growth, and local Minds can use this information to help them achieve their goals. 4. Present and interpret data insights in a variety of formats, settings and for different internal and external audiences in order to positively influence decisionmaking and resource allocation. 2
3 5. Manage bespoke requests for data insight from within Mind and the local Mind network. 6. Work with key colleagues to ensure that local Mind data is held securely and in line with Mind s data protection policy, information sharing policy and digital strategy. 7. Enable local Mind peers to support each other wherever possible so that peer-topeer sharing of knowledge, skills and resources is promoted. 8. Ensure the views of people with experience of mental health problems inform and guide your work and actively seek opportunities to involve people with lived experience in planning and delivery. 9. Undertake other duties that may from time to time be necessary, and that are compatible with the nature and grade of this post. 10. Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. Be prepared for occasional travel across England and Wales and work outside normal working hours, including some overnight stays away from home. 9. Excellent skills in data collection and analysis and proficiency in using Excel to manipulate and present data. 2. Strong relationship management skills, with the confidence and credibility to engage at a senior level and to develop and maintain working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals. 3. Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting service and organisational performance, including an understanding of organisational risk. 4. Knowledge and understanding of mental health strategy and policy, service delivery, performance and funding frameworks. 5. Understanding and experience of the third sector. 6. Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering excellent performance against agreed objectives, targets and budgets and meeting deadlines with limited supervision. 7. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse and dispersed team, and to work effectively across traditional management structures and boundaries. 8. Strong oral and written communication skills with internal and external audiences including formal and informal reports and presentations. 9. Experience of using volunteers to deliver a programme of work. 10. A commitment to Mind s aims and values, including how these could and should be reflected locally. 11. Capacity and commitment to travel with occasional overnight stays in England and Wales. Desirable criteria 1. Relevant qualification in research and evaluation. 4
