2 Introduction Planning and Preparing for Recruitment and Selection: Recruiting the right staff is a crucial component of creating the workforce profile your organisisation needs to achieve its organisational objectives and it takes careful planning and consideration to recruit successfully. Recruitment and selection can be a challenging process that goes beyond interviewing candidates for a position. It involves the following: - assessing and defining the position - developing recruiting strategies - screening applicants - interviewing - making a hiring decision and offer - getting a new employee oriented to the company and his/her duties, - and of course the legal implications that need to be considered. Without considering these factors, managers often hire based on how well a job candidate presents him/herself or on gut instinct. As a result, they often live to regret their hiring decisions. Hiring the wrong person for the job leads to: - a decrease in productivity - high turnover - low morale - and lots of frustration for all That is why this two day workshop is vital for managers to learn a system for more effective recruitment and selection.

The resources are available, within budget and fit for purpose Selection criteria and control procedures are developed in line with organisational and legal requirements, and avoid partiality or bias A plan is developed that ensures effective and efficient recruitment and selection. Create a job specifications form for the vacancy Selection procedures Organisational policies and procedures Validating the procedure Resources and methods 10:00-10:15 Comfort Break 10:15-12:30 Advertising Selection criteria and control procedures Plan for recruitment and selection Authorise the plan PoE Activity 1: Plan and prepare for recruitment and selection Debrief and Summary 12:30-13:15 Lunch Break 13:15-15:00 Module 2 Recruit applicants After completing this module, the learner will be able to recruit applicants, by successfully completing the following: Recruitment is conducted in accordance with the plan and in such a way as to have the potential to elicit the desired response from the target market Responses are dealt with in accordance to planned control procedures The initial screening determines if applicants meet the critical job specifications and requirements to expedite the departure of unsuitable applicants A list of potential candidates is prepared to facilitate selection An applicant database is maintained in accordance with legislation and organisational requirements Unplanned events are dealt with in accordance with the circumstances and contingency plans are initiated

6 Day Two 8:30 9:45 Welcome: Welcome the learners back to the programme. 8:45 10:00 Module 3 Select staff After completing this module, the learner will be able to select staff, by successfully completing the following: Backgrounds and qualifications are validated using appropriate verification methods according to the plan Candidates are assessed against the requirements of the defined position Candidates are interviewed using best practice techniques appropriate to the defined position A shortlist is drawn up to reflect the results of the assessment of candidates. The shortlist can be justified in terms of the match between candidate profile and job requirements Selections are made in accordance with planned strategy and can be justified in terms of best match between candidate profile and job and any organisation requirements and meeting legislative requirements Feedback is relevant to the enquiry and the job requirements, and is given to both successful and unsuccessful candidates tactfully according to the planned time framework and legal requirements Records are documented to facilitate further processing and reflect agreements reached and successful candidate details accurately. Based on the environment records are authorised and forwarded to designated personnel, if applicable Unplanned events are dealt with in accordance with the circumstances, and contingency plans are initiated Selecting staff Introduction Validate backgrounds and qualifications Document referee responses Schedule the interviews Use selection techniques Assess candidates Using psychometric profiling / testing Using medial testing Using other assessments 10:00-10:15 Comfort Break
