1 JOB DESCRIPTION 1. JOB DETAILS Job Title : Chief Executive, RSA Academies Department : RSA Academies Reports to : Chair of RSA Academies Board Responsible for : RSA Academies team (currently 3 staff, 2.6 FTE) Salary : 55,000-65,000 Status : Permanent, four days/week with possibility of full time hours if requested, based in London or West Midlands with travel between the two locations. 2. PURPOSE OF JOB To achieve the very best outcomes for children at schools in the RSA Family of Academies by ensuring high standards of education and by developing a distinctive approach to education in three key areas: o Providing high quality arts and cultural education; o Connecting children to, and preparing them for, the world beyond the school gate; o well-being. To lead the strategic and business development of RSA Academies and to ensure its effective operation. To strengthen and develop the partnership that RSA Academies has with the schools within the RSA Family, with the RSA (the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) and to build relationships with new and existing partners and funders. KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the RSA Academies Board to develop the RSA Academies strategic plan and ensure its effective implementation.

Promote the distinctiveness of RSA Academies in three areas: arts, culture and creativity; connecting pupils to the world beyond school; and mental health and well-being, by monitoring and supporting schools in these areas and by directly delivering projects and programmes. Support effective governance throughout RSA Academies, including liaison between the Board, governors, principals and staff at the Academies, and with the RSA. Increase the number of schools that are involved in RSA Academies projects, by recruiting new schools to the RSA Family of Academies and/or by extending approaches trialled in the RSA Family of Academies to a wider group of schools. Represent and promote RSA Academies at events and conferences and with key organisations including the Regional Schools Commissioner, local authorities, universities, businesses and other potential partners and funders. Seek new partnership and funding opportunities to further develop standards and/or distinctiveness at schools in the RSA Family of Academies to improve outcomes for children. Support the financial sustainability of RSA Academies and ensur sound financial management and efficient administration. 4. PERSON SPECIFICATION: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED A strong knowledge of the current educational landscape, including sufficient understanding of curriculum policy and school improvement issues to have credibility when working with principals and governors. Substantial senior leadership and management experience in an education, public or voluntary sector context. Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, with a track record of facilitating change working through partnership or collaborative arrangements. Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to inspire trust and respect amongst a wide range of colleagues and partners, including schools, the RSA Academies Board, RSA colleagues and other stakeholders.

3 A proven ability to manage projects and programmes effectively, including project development, monitoring and evaluation. The ability to instigate new work and manage complex and competing priorities, maintaining and responding to new opportunities. Significant line management experience, with a demonstrated commitment to own personal development and that of colleagues. A demonstrated capacity to generate income from a range of sources including charitable fundraising. Experience of working with a Board. 5. NATURE AND SCOPE RSA Academies is an educational charity which aims to achieve the very best outcomes for children at a group of schools in the West Midlands. Our distinctive educational approach emphasises the arts and creativity, connections to the world beyond school, and inclusion and mental health alongside high academic standards. We are seeking a new and business development, leading a small London-based team of RSA Academies staff and working closely with the principals and governors of the seven schools that currently form the RSA Family of Academies. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the next phase of RSA our schools and more widely so that our broader approach to education is understood and increasingly influential in education circles. RSA Academies works with a wide range of partners including schools, the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of arts, manufactures and commerce), businesses and universities. We operate as an Umbrella Trust, rather than as a MAT (multi-academy trust), which means that the Chief Executive needs to be able to work effectively through collaboration, influencing and This post is part time 4 days per week with consideration given to the post being offered on a full time basis. This post holder will have an office base at London, and will be working with the schools in the West Midlands. They will be required to attend meetings and events in both locations on a regular basis, although there is some flexibility as to whether the post is formally based in London or Birmingham. The starting salary will be dependent on skills and experience. More may be available for an exceptional candidate. Due to the nature and scope of this post, appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure.

5 EMPLOYEE BENEFITS Annual leave 29 days annual leave per year plus all bank holidays (pro rata for part time staff). Three of these days may be designated for the Christmas period. Option to buy up to five additional days leave per year (pro rata). Pension scheme* The RSA will double match your contributions into our pension scheme, up to a maximum employer contribution of 10% of salary. Salary sacrifice available. Sick pay and income protection scheme Sick pay up to 14 weeks at full pay, 14 weeks at half pay*. 75% of your average salary to be paid once sick pay ends. Life assurance scheme Life Assurance at four times annual salary. Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay* Maternity and adoption leave pay is enhanced to 12 weeks at full pay, 8 weeks at half pay, statutory pay for 19 weeks. Paternity leave is enhanced to three weeks full pay. Childcare vouchers Up to 55 per week or 243 per month as a tax-free salary, where eligible. Flexible benefits allowance* Up to 35 per month before deductions (pro rata for part time staff) to spend on voluntary benefits. Eye care The RSA covers up to 25 for eye tests and contributes up to 50 towards glasses required for working with a computer.
