ICAEW EMIRATISATION SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (IESS) IESS was launched in December 2010 as a way to provide Emirati students with the necessary skills to make a direct contribution to the future economic prosperity of the UAE. IESS Objectives To recruit and train Emirati students to become Chartered Accountants with the financial skills and experience necessary to become the UAE business leaders of the future. To enhance the depth of financial skills within the national Emirati community so they can play a role in achieving sustainable economic growth in the UAE. To promote the value of the accountancy profession to the national Emirati community as a core training ground for young financial business professionals. The scheme operates in partnership with the leading accountancy practices: Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG, PwC and BDO; and with the largest independent power producer in the MENA region TAQA. Successful candidates will be offered a full time position with one of our IESS partner firms and a full scholarship to study the ACA for three years. On completion of the programme, they will become a qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant and will be entitled to use the prestigious designation ACA after their name. During this time you must pass the Institute s exams and complete the work experience requirements. You will also follow an initial professional development programme and structured training in ethics. ABOUT THE IESS PROGRAMME Throughout the scheme, candidates will: Carry out the role and function assigned by their employer Adhere to the policies and procedures of their employer Complete an ACA training contract of three years duration Attend all classes and tutorials as required (minimum 24- hour notice required if not able to attend) Supplement tutorials with additional home study as necessary Submit assessments and mock exams and participate in progress tests in a timely manner, i.e. by date provided by tuition provider Sit (and pass) exams according to ICAEW timetabling. Candidates will be allowed only two re-sit at each of the 3 levels, and after a second fail will not be permitted to continue on the scheme Be removed from the scholarship scheme if the performance requirements are not met in regard to attendance at tuition courses, completion of assignments and mock exams. Throughout the scheme, ICAEW will: Counsel and support you during the period of their academic studies Monitor your performance throughout and recommend appropriate course of action should you fail to achieve milestones Appoint a mentor for you from the business community. 5 08 FOCUS The ACA qualification is challenging. That s why ICAEW Chartered Accountants are always in demand. TUITION Tuition is available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi through ICAEW approved tuition providers who will provide an enhanced tuition programme, as follows: Classes will be held in 3 to 5 day blocks with potential for tuition on weekends. Year 1 10 weeks, Year 2 7 weeks, Year 3 8 weeks Study leave will be provided by your employer to attend classes Additional group tutorials as required Private tutorial support will be available on request Test scores and written comments will be prepared at the end of both the tuition and revision phase for each paper, and will be passed to the employer and ICAEW for review ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The ACA is a challenging qualification recognised internationally as the premier global business and finance qualification of choice. IESS candidates will study for the ACA as part of their full-time job, so a strong desire for development is essential. Academic requirements Bachelor Degree or Higher Diploma in Business and Finance and/or Accounting Minimum GPA score of 3.2 out of 4 An appropriate class attendance record Minimum IELTS score of 6 Personal requirements Ability to commit to study hours, examination sittings and a full time job Intellect, stamina and determination to succeed Graduated within the last 5 years A satisfactory disciplinary record 90% of the top 100 Best Global Brands 2011 employ at least one ICAEW Chartered Accountant 09INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES

6 EXPLORE Recognised around the world as a leading accountancy, finance and business qualification, the ACA allows you to work with any kind of organisation you choose. 10 APPLICATION PROCESS Candidates are recruited from national or foreign universities/colleges in the UAE with whom the ICAEW develops relationships as well as some overseas universities. Candidates will normally be required to have a bachelor degree or a higher diploma in accountancy or a finance related discipline. The application process will be carried out by ICAEW. Emphasis is placed on the applicant s academic ability, work ethic and commitment to becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant. As part of the application process, candidates will need to provide academic and character references; they will also undergo a psychometric assessment measuring their skills in abstract, verbal and numerical reasoning. Applications are accepted throughout the year but there are a limited number of places available on IESS annually so early applications are encouraged to ensure a position. On successfully meeting the necessary criteria, candidates will be asked to sign an ACA training agreement. This is a joint agreement between their employer and the student that outlines the support that will be provided from their employer as well as what is expected in return from the student (e.g. start time of training, length of time, the number of exam attempts will support etc.). TAKE THE NEXT STEP 1. Complete an IESS application form 2. Provide one academic (from a tutor or lecturer) and one character reference (from a non-relative) 3. Submit all documents together to the ICAEW Middle East office. Shortlisted candidates will: 1. Be invited to an interview with ICAEW 2. Attend an assessment centre for numerical, verbal and abstract psychometric testing, personality profiling and business English 3.
