1 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY RECREATION COORDINATOR WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR Hourly Rate: $11.04 Closes: April 30, 5:00 PM This recruitment is to fill a part-time, seasonal position in the Recreation Division working in the capacity as a Water Safety Instructor for specialized outdoor recreational activities providing organization, coaching, instruction, and supervisor to participants. This is a part time position with no guaranteed number of work hours and consists of a 29-hour work week maximum. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required unless currently enrolled in an accredited school with one year s experience as a Lifeguard and any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Candidates for Water Safety Instructor positions must have one (1) year life guarding experience and possess current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and Water Safety Instructor certifications and are subject to additional specialized assessment skills testing. Prefer: strong math skills, basic recordkeeping skills, cash register experience and experience dealing with the public. Minimum age requirement is 16 years of age. There is a required class that all Water Safety Instructors (WSI s) will have to complete. Dates are May 11 th -14 th, 2018 at the Bullhead City Community Pool (2255 Trane Rd.) Selection Process: Applications and supplements will be reviewed and the most qualified applicants will be placed on an eligibility list. From this list, applicants may be selected to be interviewed by an oral board and/or further testing. All applicants will be notified of their status by mail. Final selection will be made by the Recreation Manager with final approval of the Human Resources Manager and City Manager. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS City of Bullhead City Recreation Coordinator Water Safety Instructor Reports to: Supervises: Coordinates with: Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor and Pool Manager. May supervise Aquatic Facility Staff All Recreation staff and others as appropriate or as directed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Apply principles and practices of public recreation methods involved in organizing, conducting, planning and supervising programs of specialized activities for all age ranges of potential students. Prepare and maintain class records/files including attendance records and compile class evaluation results. Provide for the safety of the public; coordinating and ensuring that staffing levels are met.

Ensure that the safety and cleanliness of the facility is maintained at all times and that repairs are made in a prompt manner at the direction of the Manager/Supervisor. Maintain professional daily logs which include pool and weather conditions, and incidents reports. Attend staff meetings; posts, enforce rules and regulation, and settle disputes with facility staff and recreation participants. Assists cashiers with closing, signs cash sheets, locks monies in the safe at night; takes deposits to Park and Recreation Office as needed. Requests necessary supplies and equipment as it would relate to specialized recreational programs. Observe patron participation at recreation facilities and/or during programs to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Display knowledge of safety rules and regulations as it relates to the City s Parks and Recreation Division and enforces same in a fair and consistent manner. Performs other duties as assigned in case of an emergency. Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers Complies with and promotes safe practices in agreement with the safety rules and procedures set forth in the Loss Control Program. Performs related duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Proper care and use of equipment; recordkeeping; accurate cashiering and mathematical skills; principles and practices of public recreation; methods involved in organizing, conducting and supervising a program of special activities. Familiar with and practice of American Red Cross standards and have thorough knowledge of emergency action plans and have the ability to carry them out.

Coord. - Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Page 3 Ability to: Instruct children in a number of specialized activities; establish and maintain effective working relations with the public; supervise and evaluate personnel; express ideas orally and in writing; keep appropriate records; work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Recognize potential hazards; communicate effectively with the public; observe and monitor people's behavior; effectively supervise facility and/or program staff. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: May be required to utilize a telephone, two-way radio, first aid equipment, personal computer, copier, and fax machine. Some positions may require the use of various sports equipment associated with recreation games.
