Through our volunteers, we harness the talents, enthusiasm and skills of ordinary people to bring about lasting change. VSO has been working in Pakistan since 1995, it has been supporting government, NGO, INGOs and CSO by placements of international volunteers. VSO s key areas of intervention in Pakistan have been youth active citizenship, volunteer management trainings, education, health, peace building & conflict transformation. VSO Pakistan as part of its participation and governance strategy has identified youth as primary actors. VSO Pakistan aims towards sustained increase in youth active citizenship so that they can contribute to community development for poverty alleviation and promoting social cohesion Duration This is 33 months project and initial agreement will be of 9 months with possibility of extension on satisfactory performance and funding availability. Promoting and encouraging appropriate behaviour and ensuring compliance with safety and security policies. organized for the Local Youth Volunteers (LYV)before their placement One supervision session organized with each LYV during one month s placement Building and Sustaining working relationships The social skills to build and actively maintain working relationships that foster teamwork and collaboration with others for the benefit of a common goal. Facilitation Promoting learning amongst volunteers on cross-cultural and intercultural issues through the delivery of training and learning tools Relationship management and partnership working Support host homes and placement organization hosting volunteers with promoting learning, cross-cultural engagement and relationship building. Plan of Actions implementation Support the youth volunteers to develop and implement action plans promoting resilience and social cohesion Integrate social accountability and social inclusion as approaches during social action implementation Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation Volunteers receive active citizenship & conflict transformation training Volunteer feedback on learning materials and support for learning received Host home and placements established with partner support LYV given orientation on relationship & good practice for stay at host homes volunteer groups established actions plan implemented per placement period Action plan reviewed according to programme objectives Action plans reviewed in line with CA and integration ensured Open Minded and Respectful A non-judgemental approach that values other people and culture. Seeking and Sharing Knowledge Recognition that learning is a two-way and continuous process. Facilitating Positive Change The ability to analyse problems and develop lasting solutions in line with VSO approaches. Adaptability A flexible approach and the ability to adapt behaviour to different situations. Resilience The self-confidence to work with a variety of situations, diverse people and ambiguity. Essential Master s degree in social science or any related discipline Maximum age limit 29 years Youth Work 2-3 year experience working in development sector. Experience of working with and providing support to year olds from a wide range of backgrounds with proven ability to facilitate learning in a non-formal environment Cross-Cultural Working Direct and substantial experience of working cross-culturally and able to communicate to a range of audiences and promote sharing and learning between cultures Knowledge of community issues Knowledge of issues which are common to communities in Pakistan, Experience of promoting learning about social issues Communication Possession of strong verbal communication to work effectively and inclusively with an overseas colleague. Strong written communication skills needed for writing reports. Supervision Experience of working in a supervisory Page 3

4 Responsibilities Key Performance Indicators Competencies Skills and Knowledge To update project stakeholders on project progress, including the reporting of medical and safety and security incidents. Work closely with Doc and Reporting Officer to gather data and produce a project report in accordance with the VSO programme M&E framework. Support volunteers to produce case studies capturing impact Project report submitted in accordance with M&E framework Incident reports submitted to programme office and security focal point where appropriate Programme stakeholders receive regular updates Facilitation of payments to host homes and LYV With the support of finance manager manages and operations manager ensure timely payments to host homes and allowances to LYV. Submit monthly reports country office. Carry out all the activities in line with people first principles and ensure VSO core approaches of social inclusion & Gender and social accountability are integrated in programme. Other Duties Fulfil other appropriate level responsibilities as defined by the line manager. Abide by VSO core values and other VSO policies regarding; Safeguarding, Gender Sensitivity, Child Protection, Data Protection Act, Confidentiality and Security. Host homes receive monthly subsistence allowance Volunteer receive monthly allowance role. Proven ability to promote selfawareness, learning and development among individuals. Planning and Organising Able to develop clear and realistic plans to deliver agreed objectives within deadlines, involving key individuals in the planning process. IT skills: Strong computer skills with expertise in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) Local of Rawalpindi/Islamabad and understanding of local dynamics and culture. Desirable Financial Management Experience of managing finances and undertaking accounting procedures. Volunteering Sufficient experience of working with volunteers to understand the key factors which make volunteer placements viable, effective and rewarding. Monitoring and Evaluation Experience of using monitoring and evaluation tools and processes. Page 4

6 2. Personal considerations In addition to the job description, the following information should be used when considering whether a placement is suitable for you. Transport requirements Official travel to the field office (Multan) or within Islamabad will be provided. However daily travel from accommodation to office and back, in Islamabad, will be the responsibility of the volunteer. Security information Though Islamabad is a safe city but duty of care and adherence to security policies and protocols of VSO is expected from the volunteer. Volunteer is also expected to keep him/herself updated on local news through newspaper or news channels. Travelling to any field outside Islamabad will be subject to security clearance and approval from VSO. 3. Background and contextual information VSO Pakistan is working in South Punjab through its implementing partner Women s Rights Association (WRA) since 2010 on youth engagement for promoting social cohesion. From June 2013 to April 2015 VSO Pakistan in partnership with WRA implemented Peace Forum in Pakistan project at Multan during which 203 local youth volunteers have been capacitated to promote peace, interfaith harmony and social cohesion. The local youth volunteers have organized peace forums in the district and implemented different social action plans in their communities to address their local conflict and build peace. VSO Pakistan has successfully implemented Pakistan Youth Initiative project at Mutan and Rawalpindi/Islamabad engaging youth (64) national volunteers in to work with communities to promote peace and social cohesions. VSO Pakistan as part of Resilience- Youth and social cohesion signature programme is implementing Pakistan Youth Initiative (PYI2) Engaging Youth for building community resilience and promoting social cohesion project which is being funded by DFID volunteering for development grant. The initiative will engage youth as vector of change to promote peace and develop resilience at community level ultimately contributing to social cohesion in the communities. The project will also include youth volunteer living in the host homes, which will promote peer to peer learning. The youth will be trained on active citizenship, mediation, dialogue, dispute resolution, and community resilience approaches. The youth with support of communities will implement action plans promoting peace and cohesion in the respective communities. The implementation modalities will also include improving social accountability, gender and social inclusion practices. Page 6
