1 JOB PROFILE DIRECTORATE JOB TITLE Children s Services - Thurrock Adult Community College Tutor (Generic) POST NUMBER GRADE TACC 1-6 with bars at 1 & 4* RESPONSIBLE TO KEY LIAISON WITH JOB PURPOSE Specific Curriculum Manager College Leadership Team, Curriculum Manager, Curriculum Team, Curriculum Admin Support, Student Support Manager, Student Services, students and prospective students To provide quality learning experience for our learners JOB PROFILE LAST REVIEWED August 014 Key corporate accountabilities 1. To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives/targets.. To participate in one-to-one performance and development reviews/appraisals and contribute to the identification of your own and team development needs.. To actively promote the council's Equal Opportunity Policy and Diversity Strategy and observe the standard of conduct which prevents discrimination taking place. 4. To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc., the council's Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work. 5. To fully understand and be aware of the council's commitment to the Section 17 duty of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to prevent crime and disorder. 6. At the discretion of the head of service, such other activities from time to time as may be agreed consistent with the nature of the job described above.

2 Key service-related accountabilities PRE-COURSE PREPARATION Provide the content for a written course information sheet prior to the enrolment period Prepare Scheme of Work for each course teaching, taking regard of current guidance issued by college Undertake enrolment duties in order to provide information and advice to students and to provide indicative scheme of work Attend induction or pre-term meeting. Risk assess activity and learning environment against the approved checklist TEACHING Arrive punctually (good practice normally requires at least fifteen minutes before the start of class) Ensure that suitable methods of initial assessment and on course assessments are used to support learning, using the Individual Learning Plan designated for their area of learning Provide the students with the agreed scheme of work, negotiate individual learning outcomes to complement the course group outcomes Ensure completion of learning agreements with all students on all courses Prepare thoroughly for all classroom teaching sessions, using the agreed lesson plan and evaluation format, incorporating guidance for learning support assistants or volunteers Teach the course using a variety of relevant methods and approaches to enable and support learning, ensuring differentiation and embedding basic skills are addressed to the required level Leave the room in a suitable condition for the next class OTHER TEACHING RELATED DUTIES Comply with health and safety requirements within the classroom and report any concerns Complete course registers accurately and undertake other course related record keeping as required Maintain a course file, recording all awarding body requirements(where appropriate), all college quality assurance processes and appropriate student records Mark student work, where appropriate Provide written and/verbal feedback on learner progress Undertake a mid-course and end course evaluation Provide to your line manager an end of course report Attend curriculum team meetings approximately once a term LEARNER SUPPORT Provide advice and guidance on course and on exit Contribute to measures to sustain or improve the attendance and retention of students in consultation with the line manager

Attend the annual staff conference to ensure awareness and understanding of new College policies, initiatives and opportunities. NOTES The nature of the non-teaching duties will be agreed each year with the line manager or Principal. Some duties must be undertaken on site whilst others with the agreement of the line manager can be undertaken elsewhere. This job description will be reviewed and updated at intervals (if necessary) in consultation with the post holder and in light of the developing organisation. To undertake any other relevant duties commensurate with the post, which may be reasonably required by the Principal. Certain posts within the College are identified as Regulated Activities. This means a further identity check is required, a Disclosure and Barring Service Check. You may not need one straight away but if you move into a different area of the College you may need one then. * Tutors Scale Points are 1-6. You will not go beyond Scale Point One until you have acquired Level 4 Qualification. Once you have reached the Scale Point 4, you will not progress through the next bar unless you have taken on significant other duties/responsibilities which will have been determined by the Principal or her representative.
